Watch how an "Apple freak" automated his house for $80,000

0. phoneArena posted on 27 Nov 2012, 08:51

The possibilities are endless - from feeding your cat while on vacation, to broadcasting video stream if you take care of a child or an elderly parent, to warming up your driveaway in the expectations of a snowfall, not to mention the usual light and air temperature controls. For more information on the competing home automation systems and apps for your iOS or Android device, you can read our dedicated article here...

I've said it once and i'll say it again. Some people just have way too much money on their hands.

I just wish i were one of those people..

When people do this kind of stuff, it brings this technology to the forefront and gets people talking and looking..

Companies notice and start putting out products for the "regular" consumers to adopt. It's a good thing.. just glad I'm not shelling out the 80k!

This is a much better use of this kind of money.. would you rather he spent 80K on a diamond encrusted iPhone case? Or 500K on a car?

This is cool stuff.. even if on Apple products. :P

I wonder how well Android will fare on this? NFC locks, bluetooth CCTV, so many things that Apple can't even scratch the surface.

I tend to believe they have some power backup of some kind if they are willing to go all this far man.

power generators last for a week, month, or even a year? I think they run on fuel. What if there is no fuel like Hurricane Sandy?

Interesting. As more people adopt these things, the price is sure to go down. Also, I'll bet if you're building a new home, you could cut that 80K by half or more if you were to build it into the home from the start as opposed to retrofitting the home.

Eventually it'll be a standard thing to install in a home, and you'll be able to go to Menards and buy home automation kits that cost just a few hundred, or a few thousand if you want the apple logo on your thermostat.

Sadly he spent way to much on the system. We automated a full sports bar for $25K.
We control lights, ceiling fans, and heat.
Also 83 TV's independantly, 12 DirecTV boxes independantly, 8 Zone Sound system, and a Blue-Ray Player. Along with a 1000 command macro.
And we only use one app so there is no switching between them.

Yeah, he did. Someone will be taking a looong Tahiti vacation with all the dough they made on him. As they say, there's a sucker born every minute...lol
