Watch T-Mobile 's CEO John Legere call AT&T's network "crap" on video

T-Mobile's CEO John Legere might be feeling his oats with the carrier about to launch its first LTE market and with the Apple iPhone expected in T-Mobile's stores sometime later this year; during CES, Legere came on strong, talking about how the nation's fourth largest carrier has a better network in New York than Verizon or AT&T; he also a one-word description of the latter's network...

But my LTG is fast where I live.

It's funny how he said that verzion service is crap but when I do speed test with my wife's T-mobile GS2 and my G-Nexus on LTE, The G-Nexus crushes the GS2. Not to mention that when we go on road trips and end up in the middle of no where I have service and my wife's GS2 doesnt....Oh, and I reside in NYC...
7. Synack posted on 11 Jan 2013, 10:02 0 1
Are you in New York? And he probably wasn't referring to the now pretty darn old GS2.

Both devices I mention above were released in 2011 about 2-3 months apart....you could say that they are both old....unless he's referring to the LTE Advance network that they haven't rolled out yet...

Tsk Tsk... T-Mobile shouldn't be bashing anyone with their terrible coverage maps. I like T-Mobile and im a fan of an underdog so I wish them luck, but....
-at&t has more 4G than T-Mobile (Not to mention LTE)
-Verizon has more LTE than anyone (which is faster than what T-Mobile uses)
9. remixfa posted on 11 Jan 2013, 10:29 4 4
Tmobile has more 42mb/s 4g than ATT.. ATT calls anything over 7.2mbs "4g" when its not... hello iphone 4s! lol.
As of the last PCMAG speed test, Tmobile was second only to VZW's LTE, and not by much.. they both handily beat ATT.
Tmobile has nearly the same coverage map as ATT yet costs half the price. $70 a month for true unlimited with no caps or throttles on Tmo.. good luck getting that on ATT or VZW.
13. Omarc07 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 11:05 4 2
I noticed everytime u come on here u always talk about t-mobile's fast hspa and how its unlimited for 70 bucks. Yes its fast but my problem with tmobile is that outside major city's u drop down to edge while at&t and Verizon usually at least have 3G. I know because I had tmobile 2 months ago I HATED that everytime I got on the I10 in LA bam EDGE all the way same in NEW YORK and in Puerto Rico while at&t and Verizon have 3G . Yes att and Verizon are not 70 bucks a month there a lot more but u get better coverage I rather pay more than 70 bucks and have better coverage with either at&t or Verizon I dnt really care if they not unlimited
18. remixfa posted on 11 Jan 2013, 12:31 2 4
ATT is still surrounded by edge as well. The only network that has full 3g is VZW (which is only barely faster than EDGE to begin with). and soon they will be full 4g. You dont see me talking a lot of crap about VZW do you? why? because your actually paying for the best network. I dont like their phone policies and I dont like the pricing, but at least you get what you pay for IF you need that much coverage.
ATT's network is not any better than Tmobile's (Tmo's data handling is actually much better than ATT's), yet your paying VZW pricing... which means ATT is a complete rip off.
Its always about location location location. Location and then price should be the 2 big factors for picking service.. not what lame phones they have.
Where I'm at in Jacksonville Tmo and VZW have by far the best coverage, and its pretty equal. Why would I pay nearly double for VZW if I dont need to? Yea, Tmo needs to desperately upgrade their 2g and GPRS network up to at least 3g, but their 4g covers over 80% of the population, so for most people its not a worry.
If you'd rather have VZW or ATT, that's up to you. However it does not negate a single thing I said about ATT.
21. Omarc07 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 13:33 0 0
I know but not as much edge as tmobile and like u said location I live in Puerto Rico at&t has the whole island covered in 3G and the most Lte , Claro is second on 3G with a few Lte markets , sprint third ,4th tmobile since they bought suncom they haven't really improved coverage here. And I get what I pay for because since there's no VERIZON here in the island nada I have att which actually works I haven't dropped a call since 09 yes I.pay a lot 110 for 1 phone on att but at least I know I can go from san Juan to vieques island and have reliable 3G coverage were as tmobiledont work in vieques .
36. JEEPOFFROADV8 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 19:42 0 0
lol, you lost all points with me when you said edge is just as fast as vzw 3g (evdo) 1xrtt is as fast as edge is. real world edge speeds our right around 100 to 150kbps with sometimes better latency then 1x. this is real world class 10 12 edge. that comment is a joke. Its not even close. edge is equal to 1x not evdo.

Well you do live in a crap area of the country, I live in south east Texas and here in Beaumont, orange, port Arthur, Lumberton and basically all of the strip that makes up South East Texas, including Brownsville I get hspa+ and funny is how my gf's at$t iphone loses signal at our local grocery store, while I still get 4G in my note II
31. Omarc07 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 17:29 0 0
Well actually I'm from LOS ANGELES I'm going back next month and guess what tmobile is crap in LA too so yeaaa. when I had them 2 months ago I had bad service from them in dwtwn, weho, hollywood, east la,Compton, south central,Glendale,Riverside, OC, Irvine, hmm I could go on forever....WHILE both att and Verizon always came tru cuz when I'm in LA I have a phone from att n Verizon I will do the same next month carry 2 phones one from Verizon another from att .
44. Bernoulli posted on 12 Jan 2013, 09:16 0 1
Well I guess you have money to blow, more power to you, I used to carry both t-mobile and Verizon, one was personal other for my business but I found my at$t phone to be very static on phone calls, making me ask a question more than once making me look unprofessional, but hey if at$t does wonders for you great, and then t-mobile is rolling out HD voice, that will crush at&t as far as call quality goes
49. Omarc07 posted on 12 Jan 2013, 14:29 0 0
Well on Verizon I had to choose for work they gave us a choice at&t or verizon we choose Verizon and at&t is my personal phone . And well same for u great that in your area tmobile works . AND same for me when I had tmobile I had to ask everyone to repeat themselves making me look unprofessional because call quality was a mixed bag. While on att and Verizon I have perfect call quality loud , clear no static. And great for tmobile launching HD voice from what I read online att made it official they will also be launching HD voice august 2013 look it up if u dnt believe me so I guess we would have to wait to see if tmobiles hd voice crushes atts hd voice once it launches.
33. JunitoNH posted on 11 Jan 2013, 18:13 1 0
Amigo, you are absolutely correct. However, is all depends how you are going to use network/services. For example, ninety percent of the time I'm surrounded by wifi, so basically my needs are mostly text and voice, and you can't beat T-mobile for $30/month plan. You can't even get a glass of water for $30 at Verizon or AT&T.
14. androiddownsouth posted on 11 Jan 2013, 11:17 1 2
And Verizon should have their entire 3G service area covered with LTE before the end of the year, possibly as soon as mid-2013. Everyone else is 1-2 years at least behind Verizon in LTE rollout.
If you want more coverage everywhere, Verizon, like it or not, is the way to go.
16. billybuttpounder (banned) posted on 11 Jan 2013, 11:24 0 1
Good point. I would add that people like to b*tch and moan about how expensive Verizon is, and I agree they are ($90 for one line unkl talk & txt ONE GB data) but they invest that money right back into their infrastructure and network.
34. JunitoNH posted on 11 Jan 2013, 18:19 0 0
Well, they should provide good coverage, no excellent service for $100. Almost more or the same as my land line service and cable TV.
46. Ruckus posted on 12 Jan 2013, 10:58 0 0
@remixfa there is probably hundreds of miles around here where at&t works and T-Mobile does not. Its not "almost" the same coverage. T-Mobile covers big cities and towns which is where they can claim they cover such a high percent of Americans. But out in country areas, Verizon and at&t are far superior, and Sprint is becoming more competitive in these areas.
8. Omarc07 posted on 11 Jan 2013, 10:15 1 4
Well t-mobile's network also ain't that great in NY ..I think in NY at&t is a Lil bit better when I was there 2 weeks ago my galaxy note 2 from at&t was always faster than my sisters galaxy s2 from tmobile data wise atts LTE in NY left tmobiles hspa42 in the dust I saw speeds up to 30 mbps on att Lte highest I saw on tmobile was 20 and coverage wise I had more better coverage in upstate NY on at&t than on tmobile. And dropped calls I had none I was afraid of NY cuz I have att n I had read so many bad things online about horrible coverage ,dropped calls to my surprise while I was there I had better and faster speeds than my sister on tmobile and better coverage and no dropped calls.

I know MANY people with mobile and their speeds are terrible.. The saying is true... You pay for what you get in this world and I'll pay for better service with ATT or VZN
19. remixfa posted on 11 Jan 2013, 12:33 3 0
you pay for better service with VZW. you pay to be ripped off with ATT. Higher price does not equal better service.
29. Bilpocalypse posted on 11 Jan 2013, 17:21 0 0
Completely depends on your market. I used to have tmo, which sucked. Then I went to Verizon, which was a considerable amount better. However, the best service in my area is AT&T, and since I made the switch, I've been completely satisfied.
30. papss posted on 11 Jan 2013, 17:23 1 0

20. ErikSax posted on 11 Jan 2013, 12:51 0 0
Obviously, service depends on where you work and live. For example, in my neighborhood, Verizon's vaunted "network" does not function well at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal, within the Staten Island Railway train yard or surrounding area without continuously dropping calls without warning. They do not respond to repeated complaints about this poor service, even after years of repeated complaints. AT&T is another matter. Due to an excessive number of iPhones that clog their limited band-with, the reliability of voice calls has deteriorated to the point that people at the other end of phone calls often beg or demand that I hang up and use a land-line to continue our conversation (due to static and sound level drop-outs). Calls to voice-mail on AT&T are also challenging, often failing to complete, or jumping into the middle of the voice recordings without warning. AT&T text messages also fail to send with alarming frequency. Sprint service is intolerable in my area. I recall setting up my voice-mail announcement three times in an attempt to eliminate static and artifacts (I did not succeed). T-Mobile on the other hand always has consistently high quality, clean, clear, fully intelligible voice communication. Is their signal as prevalent as those provided by AT&T or Verizon, honestly no, not at all. However, they are always improving, innovating and making the network that is available, usable, enjoyable and appreciated by the listener at the other end of the phone. I wish that I could say that for AT&T. If so, I would be an iPhone user, but I cannot abide the noisy, trashy, ham radio sounding drone that accompanies the AT&T network. I would rather use a land line, twiddle my thumbs, read a book or play a mobile game until I enter an area where excellent T-Mobile voice service is available.

This dude is an idiot. EVERY company has their flaws and hes acting like his company is better??
1. explain the fact that you are the 4th largest carrier in the US
2. explain why you were almost bought out TWICE within the last few years
3. explain why your network is the LAST to have 4G-LTE
4. explain why customers have left because of poor business decisions
before you criticize a rival.......................please understand that your company is no better than AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint
35. cptbeatstix posted on 11 Jan 2013, 19:21 1 1
1. Because we don't have the iPhone.
2. We were blocked by the Department of Justice. And only had ONE company attempt to buy us.
3. We wait for the Network to get the kinks out instead of having a network go down. Go back to Verizon's LTE fiasco.
4. We we're the first offered to carry the device, but because of Apple's restriction on product build, it limited capabilities for the device. Why sell a device working at half power when you can have another that works at full.
Before you criticize a company for it's business decision, please do some research before you make yourself sound like an idiot.

"Because we don't have the iPhone"
I remember thinking that also when I worked for Tmobile. Now that I've moved on, I realize that's far from the truth. One device will not boost them above Sprint in any way.
55. Jeradiah3 posted on 16 Jan 2013, 13:41 0 0
I sound like an idiot!!!!!!!! how can you say that when Tmobile has been the least profitable carrier since it came to the US. Lets explain why SHALL WE:
1. AT&T and Verizon have been able to expand their network over the last 5 years (3G, 4G, and 4G-LTE) and even sprint has an LTE network while Tmobile is STILL without one.
2. Other than the Samsung Galaxy S Series..........they havent had phones good enough to compete with other carriers. The MyTouch series is all but dead because they havent lived up to what Tmobile thought.
3. Appeal.........whats the benefit of having Tmobile when AT&T, Verizon, and even Sprint are able to offer more. The reason that Tmobile has so many sales on their phones is be cause they NEED people to add to their network. You dont need all that with the other carriers...............do you want me to continue lol
for you to say that Im an idiot to talk about what Tmobile ISN'T doing is completely asinine!!! You are entitled to your opinion, but the evidence is clear that Tmobile needs to step their game up in order to stay afloat

While I fully agree with his statement, I strongly add that this is a huge case of the "pot calling the kettle black".
Where I'm at, T-Mobile customers get their accounts cancelled due to excessive roaming on the AT&T network.
Fix your coverage map, then you can call whoever you want "crap".
On a side note, I did not know T-Mo's CEO was a part-time Billy Crystal impersonator on the side.

Not true as that would have legal reprecussions. We have a roaming agreement with AT&T because the deal fell through.
Some of the crap you guys come up with. Provide the evidence for T-Mobile cancelling customer accounts because of that. Otherwise, anything out of your mouth is Heresay.

I'm sure this shows that they will suspend you until the next billing cycle.
Beginning on April 5, 2012 there will be a limit on the amount of data that can be used while a T-Mobile customer’s device is connected to another provider’s network (“off network” or “domestic romaing”). Customers that are domestically roaming will receive free text message usage alerts for data. If the roaming data limit is exceeded for a Rate Plan, then data service will be suspended from off-network roaming until the start of the next bill cycle or a qualifying change is made to the Rate Plan. This will not impact: (1) voice usage, and (2) data usage on the T-Mobile network.
To determine domestic roaming areas, see the T-Mobile data coverage map by visitinghttp://www.T-Mobile.com/Coverage. The domestic roaming data allowance for each Rate Plan is outlined in the chart below. To use this chart, review the Current Rate Plan Full Speed Data Allotment column to identify the megabytes (MB) or gigabytes (GB) included in your Rate Plan, and then see the domestic roaming data usage limit that applies on the right. The megabytes of gigabytes for a Rate Plan can often be found by reviewing the Available Service section on page 1 of the bill (ex: Classic Simple 200MB Data Promo) or by dialing #WEB# send from your mobile phone.

You apparently don't understand the difference between partner roaming and OFF network roaming. It's suspends until the following bill cycle starts again.
As the guy stated, "Where I'm at, T-Mobile customers get their accounts cancelled due to excessive roaming on the AT&T network."
Where did you see suspend? By the way, you'll find the same type of agreement across other services.
Thank you for proving that most of you Tmo haters speak before you think.

Couldn't agree more about AT&T being "crap".
Tried them several years ago in the Denver, CO area when the iPhone came out and the coverage/service was horrendous.
Tried them again when the original Galaxy Note came out and the coverage/service was still "crap".
Consumer Reports rated them consistently at the bottom in almost every state.

Verizon has the worst phone selection hands down and the most intrusive bloatware. You can get an iPhone, a Galaxy; or one of their outdated, and/or neutered alternatives like the DNA (Superphone with 10 gigs usable internal storage; no expansion. WHY?).
The network is good; but its way overpriced. And if you want your phone to work elsewhere? Forget it. CDMA is a dinosaur. Nobody else uses it extensively.
And dont forget your Wifi verizon customers. They wont let you thanks to their handy dandy notification at the TOP of your pulldown.
