Walmart offers Burg 12 smartwatch; timepiece makes and takes calls on its own

If the Tizen powered Samsung Gear S interests you with its 3G connectivity, and ability to make/take phone calls on its own, you probably would like to hear about the Burg 12. Like the Gear S, the Burg 12 allows you to make a call directly from your timepiece, or send a text message, without having to pair with a smartphone. But if you want to sync with an iOS or Android flavored handset, well, no one is going to stop you.

While the watch runs a proprietary operating system, we can give you some info about the hardware. The timepiece offers a 1.5-inch screen with 240 x 240 resolution. This works out to a pixel density of  226ppi. The Burg 12 has a round watch face and the bezel and strap are removable. A micro USB port is used to recharge the battery, and the watch is splash and scratch-resistant. A 16GB capacity microSD slot is available to expand the 4GB of native memory that comes with the device.

As far as connectivity is concerned, a $25 pre-paid SIM card is included with the watch. Once that is all used up, it is up to you to refill the card. A camera and voice recorder are both included with the smartwatch, and the timepiece also doubles as an MP3 (audio) and MP4 (video) player. The Burg 12 sounds like it can do it all, and can be purchased at Walmart for $199, just in time for your holiday shopping.
