WSJ: no new plastic iPhone in 2014, but Apple should launch two large-screen iPhone 6 models
0. phoneArena 23 Jan 2014, 11:43 posted on
People familiar with the matter say that this year we'll see a new Apple iPhone with a screen of at least 4.5 inches, and another model with a display of more than 5 inches...

wait no... i thought 3.75" screen was perfect? what happened!?!?!

It was perfect and that was said by Steve jobs times have changed Steve jobs isn't here right now, Tim Cook is the CEO :)

It was perfect while Steve Jobs was alive but also something convenient to say to justify the lack of innovation. Now that Apple is releasing a larger screen it is revisionist historianism time and it is no longer perfect to have a screen less than 4 inches on a smart phone. Also, 802.11 ac is absolutely essential and all smart phones have to have more than 1 GB of RAM because that is the "new" set of commandments issued from dear leader Stim Cobs (apparently Tim Cook has dug up the remains of Steve Jobs, absorbed, or ate to the layman, his essence/remains thereby making a new Super CEO). ALL HAIL HIS SPIRITUAL AND TEMPORAL MAJESTY.

Well said, put his stupi comment to rest. +1

That's only when stupid is used as a noun, as in "the stupi walked, one-by-one, over the cliff."
Stupid in this instance is used as an adjective, as in "his stupid comment."

LOL...that dude said Tim Cook ate Steve Jobs' "essence".

Well, there never was a 3.75" iPhone screen, so it would be hard for that to be perfect....

What happened is that Steve Jobs passed away. With each subsequent iPhone release since his passing, we'll see more and more breaking away from the principles he brought to the table. First, skeumorphism (hope I spelled that right). Now, screen size.

In an interview with Bloomberg Tim spoke about how Steve wanted him to run Apple and this included how it was important that Tim should not base his judgment on what Steve would have done.

I think it was actually 3.5...
And, that's just a pathetic as some WP fans saying that dual core is overkill, with the same people now wanting Q. core...
That's why I always stay neutral on making these kind of comments and I'm always open to new hardware specs..

I agree. They move forward with the new leaders in the company. This has taken so long though but I am not planning on getting a new phone until the end of the year so I am glad it will come this year at least. Hopefully Sony has stepped up again by the end of the year.

Just like plastic is the best material, or the iphone will fail because it cost to much and people want physical keyboards, or phones need flash, etc....you see what I'm getting at?

WSJ must be desperate for a large iphone

Once a company does something, it will become their new perfection despite how crappy they talked about it before. Example: Nokia picked on the Note 2's huge size in the Lumia 920 ad. Last year they came out with something even bigger.

The iPhone 5c must have really taken a dump. I actually like the plastic design but it's too close in price to the 5s. Perhaps they can apply the plastic look to the iPod Touch.

I'm pretty sure it's the one who cares to leave a comment

So if they are releasing two new phones this year why don't they deplete stock and start selling existing IPHONES at a reduced rate. APPLE needs to get in to the incentive business so they can answer the question "why should you stay with us". I have had the 4 and 5. The S4 and Note 3.
All great devices. If there is one thing I do not like about the IPHONE is the control freak nature of how they structure your purchases. It doesn't work and it is pissing the consumer off and driving them away. Meanwhile Android users can do whatever they want. APPLE needs to loosen up and give its customers some freedom if they want to stay in the game. Lastly if there is one thing that is magic about the IPHONE it is the size. There is nothing else like it. If they are to do a reverse Steve Jobs and become followers, they will release the surf board phone just like everybody else is doing. Size matters and in this case small matters if APPLE wants to stay innovators and not become one of the many followers.

My mom would love a larger iPhone. She just has to have an iPhone (peer pressure around the Apple logo, lol), but she really likes bigger phones.

They need a bigger screen to compete with all these devices. Some people like the big big phones and others don't. If you don't want a big screen phone stick to a blackberry or a mini android. When I use my lumia 1520 tablet with the 6 inch screen I see everything so well. I think the iphone needs to try a bigger screen once. If they fail at having a bigger screen they can always go back to the old size screen. I also have an iphone 5s. I prefor the iphone because it is not to big like the 1520. If the iphone was to try a half inch bigger to an inch bigger I think it would be the most popular phone. I think it is a great idea. I love the web browser on my lumia because I see it all so well. I just hope it stays as skinny as it does.If you have any questions follow me on twitter lilduderob
