Vodafone allegedly reveals Samsung Galaxy S8 price in Europe

The Samsung Galaxy S8 and its larger sibling, the S8 Plus, are expected to finally make their official appearance tomorrow, but the details around the two phones keep on seeping. The latest piece of the large S8 puzzle is the price: we've heard from various sources that the price of the new phones will be higher than that of the Galaxy S7 family, with slightly different prices for the different markets.

Today, we hear news about the price of the Galaxy S8 family in Europe, and the Czech Republic in particular. The information allegedly comes from Vodafone Czech Republic. Here are the numbers:

  • Galaxy S8 - 21 977 Czech crowns (equivalent of around €815)
  • Galaxy S8+ - 24 977 Czech crowns (equals €925)

Keep in mind that the prices in euro are indicative for the average prices of the Galaxy S8 in Europe.

As you can clearly see, the trend is indeed confirmed: the Galaxy S8 will likely cost more than its predecessor, at least initially. In comparison, last year we had the following prices for the S7 series in Europe:

  • Galaxy S7 - €700
  • Galaxy S7 Edge - €800

We are curious to see how customers will react to those higher new prices. Chances are that in the United States, where the real cost of a phone remains hidden in your monthly fee in one form or another, this higher price will be less noticeable, but what about the global market, where users commonly pay the full retail price of a device? Only time will tell.
