ViewSonic is too expensive for Android devices, it should switch to iOS for that price.

Wasn't the Retina display created by LG? Is it actually Apple's own display or do they just license it?
I might be way off with who owns or invented what, but I don't believe Viewsonic would displays without the proper permissions. I wouldn't for see any lawsuits coming, even when Apple is involved

i think a few companies make the retina display for apple, because they need all the stock they can get. i know lg does, im pretty sure toshiba does too, and rumor has it that sharp is making the upcoming retina-ish display on the next ipad. apple does have the trademark on "retina display", but not on the pixel count or density; so anyone can use the display, they just cant call it "retina".
i dont think that it is going to stop apple from filing a suit, however.
im surprised that we havent seen this display in other phones yet.

The retina display was designed by Apple and outsourced for production to LG. ViewSonic should be okay as long as they don't call it a Retina Display as considering how finicky Apple can be, the name is patented.

That's actually backwards. LG designed the Retina display (and has since replaced it with the NOVA display if I recall correctly), and apple licenses its use. As for manufacture, I believe LG makes the iphone4 and up screens, and other screens are made by other manufacturers

"Retina Display" is a marketing gimmick. The display is an IPS LCD screen. Retina display really just means that it has a high enough pixel density to look natural to the naked eye.
And yes, LG was the creator here.

If ViewSonic wants to compete with Apple or Samsung, they are going to have to do better than that.

ViewSonic is smaller than ZTE or Huawei if i'm not wrong.. and clearly can't rival Apple.. but i like their sense of humour in insulting Apple straight on the face..
