Verizon's Sony Xperia Z3v and Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet get updated to Android 5.1.1
Verizon has started pushing out Android 5.1.1 to the Sony Xperia Z3v. The update takes the handset from KitKat to Lollipop. To be precise, software version 23.4.B.0.319 is being sent to the device. Besides Android 5.1.1, the update adds HD Voice, which bring high quality audio to the handset. It also adds the ability for users to make video calls, and allows them to use voice and data simultaneously.

The update also brings with it the latest Android security patches. Since the files are being sent out OTA on a staggered basis, you might not receive the update for a few days. There is a way to try to pull out the update. Go to Settings > About device > Software updates > Check for software updates. Verizon discontinued the Sony Xperia Z3v last August.

Also being updated is the Verizon version of the Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet. The update takes the slate from Android 5.0.2 to Android 5.1.1. The software version number is 23.1.D.0.508, and includes the latest Android security updates.

Verizon suggests that when you receive the notification that the update has hit your phone or tablet, you should make sure that you are using a Wi-Fi connection, or have a strong Verizon Wireless signal. The carrier also suggests that you have your battery fully charged, or make sure that the device is plugged in to an outlet before starting the updating process.
