Looking more like the LG Dare than the sexy BL40 we have seen in videos, is the Verizon Chocolate Touch the BL40 or is it another model altogether?

Im willing to bet the reasoning for this phone is to release a new dare/versa type phone that will require the new data packages.

What are you saying? It looks nothing like the Dare... ._. The only similarities I see are the placement of LG and Verizon logos.

How does that not look like the Dare??? Except for maybe the size dimensions and a little chrome thrown on its exactly the same.

Why, cause the screen's a Rectangle? If you didn't notice, the (keypad?) is triangular for end and call signs. I have a Dare in front of me and I honestly think it looks nothing alike.

Um, the only difference you listed was the shape of 2 buttons. Try again please.

I ono if you noticed, but the back is completely different. The sides are well rounded and the buttend isn't at a slant. Tell me what makes it look the same besides the speakerpiece, a rectangular screen, and the light sensor?

I have to admit that this looks nothing like the BL40 that everyone is craving. Just like the original VX8500, VZW has managed to "butcher" yet another phone from its original form factor. Why, why, why? The BL40 videos gave me high hopes. I think I will just stick to my original plan and get the Touch Pro 2

Vzw didnt butcher anything, these phones were announced at the same time, it just didnt get the one you wanted. Hardly butchering.

if this is going to be marketed as the chocolate touch, then it should at least carry a resemblance to the chocolate touch. this thing has been butchered, no two ways about it. cant wait to see the spec sheet on this lol

They didn't "butcher" anything? Are you kidding me? When it was announced some months ago, the specs were going purely on the BL40. Sound familiar? When they announced the original 8500 many moons ago, the specs from the European version were used here in the states.... rounded edges, 1 gig of internal memory, and so forth. None of that happened. We got a square shape with about 128 megs of memory. When I saw the BL40 in the video, my eyes popped open. I couldn't wait until this phone was released on VZW ... until I saw these pics. Maybe I will give it a chance. So far, they already changed the design. Let's see what else they will change.

verizon is going to do everything they can to end all of the existin lifespans of the versa, dare, env touch, env3, etc so they can require data on the new devices...thats just smart business for them... everyone wants the iphone, but no one wants to pay for it, well this is what you get...required data on everythin....wonderfulness

I tend to agree. Verizon sees mandatory data on the iPhone, which people are willing to pay for and says, 'if you want OUR cool phones, you have to pay too.' Problem is, I'm not sure that people are going to be as willing to pay for their cool phones as they are for the iPhone. Now if this thing can support streaming music from Rhapsody or some other cool enhanced data features beyond just a web browser, that might be cool.

Ugh. Really wanted the choco touch to be the famed BL40. Hopefully there is still something coming down the pipe for VZW that is/similar to the BL40. This phone still doesn't look bad though...I was just hoping that it would be the BL40. Even if all this is doing is replacing the Dare, it's about time, the Dare has been out for over a year now.
