Verizon has taken out Best Buy's inventory of two DROID phones, possibly because the chain was selling them too cheap. The Motorola DROID Pro was going for $50, and the Motorola Droid 2 Global for $100, before Verizon got mad...

good for verizon!! other carriers should follow in verizons steps and not allow these third party places to sell the phones cheaper and with instant rebates!! if people keep buying these phones from third parties you will see more and more corporate sales locations close down because there is no buisness.

the point is that you will lose customer service for in person interaction. obviously people dont want to pay a rebate. dont be ignorant and act like any corporate sales person wants to charge you for a rebate! the point is that if people dont buy from the corporate locations they will not be around any more and you will be moving your contacts over one by one if you dont have them backed up by gmail or another service.

I work at a corporate store right next to a Bestbuy and I can't tell you how many people buy their phone at Bestbuy, then come to my store when they need help. all of my customers have no problem waiting on mail in rebate it comes fast, and you get the benefit of having me or my coworkers help you set the phone up, troubleshoot if need be and all, unlike third parties that just say here take your phone that you got for cheap and when you have a proble we dont know how to help go to the VERIZON store and let them try to figure it out for no commision because you already bought it from us, so go and hold them up from making money on the next customer in line, people that work at corporate and verizon dealers work off of commission to pay our bills and live in this expensive world of ours, what if your company outsourced to somewhere cheaper and all your clients or jobs got taken and then you cant make money anymore? cheaper is not better, its cheaper for some reason at the end of the day and for these third party cellular sellers, it cheap cause they dont know how to aid you in a problem or whatnot.

The problem is that people that go to Best Buy and buy their phones then go to other stores to waste people's time with doing all of the dirty work that Best Buy didn't do or tried to do and screwed up. Then when they get turned away or told it will cost money they have the nerve to get all angry... I work for an indirect retailer (not Verizon) and that happens all the time.
Most people who sell phones work on commission, so why would any of these employees want to waste time with somebody that made them absolutely no money in the first place and at the same time cost them opportunities to sell something? They go to work to make money just like everyone else. If you give your business to Best Buy, then take your issues back there as well, plain and simple.

GOOD!! and good riddens to them. i for one, am SICK of mail-in rebates. i get a new phone, pay too much for it, and then wait in limbo while someone else sits in MY money.. i got me a droid 2 global from best buy yesterday and glad i did so! looks like i got it JUST in the knick of time! (paid $99 for it! that was a steal of a price!)

That is honestly one of the most ridiculous comments I have ever heard on this site. The thought that Verizon or ATT would have to close their stores because of competition from BB and Walmart???? Believe me, they are making PLENTY of money. They are fine. As for the other comments about Best Buy being horrible for cell phones.... I work there and I cannot tell you how many times people come in just because they HATE the corporate store. They hate the service, the employees are paid on commission, and they feel like they are being lied to. Now, I am sure it really isn't that bad. I for instance remember the corporate store being a good experience with the exception of the long lines... But the fact of the matter is you are getting the exact same phone for the same monthly cost and service... just at a different price. Yes, you will have to bring your phone back to wherever you purchased it when something does go wrong. There are a hundred different scenarios as to which place might give you better service here, but they really are not much different overall. I cannot speak for all BBYM stores, but I for one can say that I honestly do everything in my power to please the customer. Because I work in a no commission basis, and have to work within the Best Buy expected customer experience, I feel like I am able to work with the customer better than if I worked at the corporate store.

they make money with our money so that they can be the fastest growing and productive and best signal tower upgrading company to provide a very good service foe the most part. if they gave eveything away Verizon would be sprint and uscellular with customer leaving all the time because of crappy service and dropped call in place where they should get reception, now everybody can search and find a spot that Verizon just so happens to not get coverage and then complain but for the most part they are great compared to everybody other carrier out there. You dont expect to $10,000 for a mercedes maybach cause if you buy one brand new for that price i guarantee you probably wont get service, maintence, a passenger side mirror, leather seats, nice paint job warranty etc etc. get my point you pay for quality period and that is what Verizon is i've had Uscellular, At&t (which i thought was the best company out there until i moved back to my home town) sprint, and left veriozn to go to helio because they were 79.99 for unlimited everything and high tailed it right back when i couldnt make a call in all my normal areas. thats why im with verizon. they proved themselves better.

instant rebates are fine...but companies like best buy and radio shak doing instant rebates and additional money off are what closes down corrporate stores. hey if you want to keep buying phones cheap liek that then do it but guess what you will have to talk to customer service over the phone when you have an issue with your phone becuase all the stores that are corporatley owned will close down and best buy sure the hell isnt going to be trying to assist you with you billing issue or why your phone dosent work.

no they do not. i purchased a phone from best buy had issues with the phone and activaiton fee they told me would be waived and all they did was tell me to contact the my carrier or the manufacturer. then when it was determined it was an issue with the phone the only way i could do an exchange was in the store which i live 3 hours from. they did not help and were rude.

Soooo.... it is not that employees at Best Buy Mobile do not want to help you with your account issues, it is a matter that they simply cannot. Verizon does not grant Best Buy the ability to manage or change anything to do with your account. If the activation fee was to be waived, it will, maybe not on the initial bill but you will see a credit. That is how Verizon works. Suck it up and deal with it. If you want to send in a mail in rebate, be my guest. I, however, am more about what is coming out of my wallet this second and not what I will be getting back. I have other things that I could buy with that $100 mail-in rebate. So thanks. Plus if you really are having an issue with the service at Best Buy on the bottom of your receipt is a website or number to call and take a survey on just that, the customer service. So dont complain if you do nothing to try and make it better...

Actually, from everything I've heard, it's once in a blue moon you get any help from Best Buy. I've had numerous customers come in with billing issues, and all kinds of nightmare stories. Not only that, but they buy the phone at BB, then come into my store, and expect me to set it up for them, transfer contacts/pictures, and whatever else they can come up with. And expect it free. This hurts indirect agents more than anything, which I am. A lot of peoples lives, including customers, would be a lot better if places like BestBuy, Wal-mart, Target, and whatever else places that don't know two things about any of the phones they sell, would just stop carrying phones altogether.

I am ALWAYS directed to call and deal with them over the phone. never in my life, except for buying phones or buying accessories have i had a corporate store willing to lift a finger for me or anyone else i know. they give me a piece of paper and say call this number, push this number, and they will be able to help you.

Me as a owner of a premier retailer verizon store, 5 stores at that, have witnessed pathetic and horrible best buy employees lying to customers about stupid things like insurance, best buy agent had a vzw customer that geek squad insurance is the way to go (which its not bad at all) and said mam if u were to take the verizon insurance through asurian, the insurance deductible would be $250.00, what kind of a lie and b.s. is that? these things are what makes the company look bad, better yet it might hurt the corporate stores but it hurts the small verizon agents such as other agents owners and myself BIG TIME.

Also as a premier retailer i hate you. you make people pay up the wazoo just to talk to your reps. Every service you provide for a customer you make them pay, yet if they would go to the VZW store they wouldnt pay for a thing. Explain that? Yet i do understand the main population is stupid enough to listen to your preppy young sales people and believe that your premier retailer is better than going to vzw themselves. The MIR makes a ton of money for vzw but you retailers do all the same. you are no better than best buy or any other retailer that sells phones. i would more than likely compare you premier retailers to the devil

Obviously it depends on what retail chain you go into. Ours is heavily based on customer service, since everyone hates the horrible service at our local corporate store. I charge nothing additional for any services. I transfer contacts/pictures/videos (even texts if it lets me) for free, as a service to you, IF you buy the phone from OUR store. Or if its a warranty replacement. I'd love to see a store that actually makes you pay to talk to reps, never in my mind would I think about charging someone just to talk, I'll spend hours with a customer, who in the long run will go buy from Best Buy because they saved a few bucks. Please watch your mouth before comparing premium retailers to places like Best Buy.

I REFUSE to walk into a corporate verizon store unless i HAVE to (to get a case/cover that nobody else carries) otehrwise, I use the premium retailer or bestbuy (heck even walmart is better than the actual stores around here)

protectcell is the ONLY way to go. pay $70 up front for a year of insurance on the phone, and if you need to make a claim, the deductable is $50, they overnight you a BRAND NEW PHONE (not like new, not certified pre-owned, not CLEAN phone, none of that. you get a NEW PHONE IN THE BOX) granted, if you need to make another claim, then the deductable goes up to $100, and then $150 for each deductable after that, and there is NO limit to how many claims you can make. plain and simple there.

FrankTheTank, you should contact protectcell about becoming a seller of their insurance. it honestly really is the only way to go. black tie is GOOD, yes, i am not saying you are wrong there, but they also try to repair your phone before anything else. asurion is a real joke. you pay $7.99 each month for it, and then a deductable is $90, and you can only make two claims per year. sounds like a lousy auto insurance policy to me personally.

If carriers dropped the MIRs, I would shop there in an instant. I would rather have a staff dedicated to strictly phones. But, until that changes, I prefer to purchase without MIRs. All it does, is allow the carriers another outlet in making my money into theirs to help pay for subsidizing that they already grab from us with contracts.

go in there tomorrow and see if they still have them available. as of this morning, i had to stop in again to get a TV accessory, and they had them still, and one person was buying one right there. the ones that are in the stores will probably still be able to be sold at the honored price bestbuy advertised. its worth a look.

Verizon has a minimum advertised price policy (MAP) in place that protects the minimum price that any outlet selling VZW products is allowed to advertise a product for. This is so that smaller retailers, mom and pops, and retailers that have a commission based selling structure for their highly qualified and knowledgeable salespeople are able to remain competitive with retail juggernauts like best buy or HH Gregg. This is why when amazon sells a phone for less than what VZW's MAP policy allows, you have to log in to amazon and add the item to your cart to see the price. You can sit here all day long and argue about not liking mail in rebates, and how this that and the other is not good for the customer, but Verizon has put this policy in place in order to allow all of their retailers to remain competitive on product pricing which gives the customer as many options as possible as to where to purchase. When you boil it down to its very minimum, the absolute best thing for the customer is to give them as many choices as possible to cater to their own specific needs when buying. Apple does the exact same thing. When the playing field is somewhat level on price customers are able to choose where to buy based on more important factors such as customer experience, customer service, and the ability of the salesperson to do his or her job. If you had absolutely no idea what phone would be best for your situation, or how different products and services would enrich your lifestyle, would you rather buy from the cheapest place possible where people have no motivation to care about what you walk out the door with, or would you rather speak with a professional with the knowledge and experience to help you make the best decision for your specific situation? No matter which you prefer, keeping prices at a reasonable level for everyone enables you to even have this choice. This minimum advertised price policy is in place to ensure that customers have a choice in where they buy, plain and simple. Verizon cares about customer satisfaction, if they didn't all of the phones would be free and would be sold out of vending machines with signature pads attached. That would be a hell of a lot cheaper for them than operating thousands of retail outlets, contracting with hundreds of retailers, and hiring a thousand people to process the mail in rebates. The unfortunate part of the whole thing is that we live in America where price tends to be the sole motivating purchasing decision for many people, and $199 for a phone that Motorola sells to Verizon or to a Verizon Retailer for $600 is too expensive for people. A $400 discount up front is not good enough in America. I've been paying the power company at least $50 a month ($300 or so in the summer) for the last ten years of my life, but they never throw $400 at me in appreciation for paying my bill on time without question each month.

MAP pricing technically is illegal. if bestbuy wants to sell a product for less, thats their business. they just cant advertise that price. moreover, a MAP can only be set by a manufacturer anyways. i dont see anything where motorola says you have to sell this phone at this price anywhere at all. nobody has a right to come in and say "you can not sell this product for less than this price right here." the loophole is the "A" part of that, Advertised. IF bestbuy has anything out in the open that shows the phone for less than a MAP price, then it can get sticky. but if thats just what they offer the customer in the store, thats their business. (sorry, i had to chime in, my father is an attorney, and knows all about this kind of stuff)

If Best Buy, Wal-Mart, whoever wants to sell Verizon services, they have to agree to the terms that Verizon sets forth in their authorized retailer contract. If Verizon said that all best buy employees had to undergo a physical examination to sell their products, and best buy said no, Verizon wouldn't let them sell their product because it's their product and it's their prerogative. I was going to keep this quiet, but i was recently in a verizon store and i had to actually show a store rep how to set an app as a widget. this is one of the most elementary aspects of an android phone. they are missing the boat here BIG time.

for consumer stand point of view are good. cause, it doesn't cost them arm&leg to purchase the phone by going to bustbuy, walmart or radioshark. for all major carriers out there. they don't care. casue, they make the same amount of money by customers. either by corp store, indirect dealer or retail chain. as long as they have the customer to sign up for them service. for the indirect dealer!
you know what? its sucks for indirect dealer. casue, they are little. they don't have the big order discount like bustbuy, walmart or any other retail chain out there. plus, the carries are offer them more commission and more discount for the same product. im sure there's alot people want to question me now. how you come up with all this. well, im part of indirectdealer. so, i know and i have see this. its depend on what level of indirect dealer. cause, the carries are pay different commission to different level of dealers. for the past years. i have see more dealer close them door. cause, they can't even make it. i had friend was in indirect channel for 8 years now. he just close his door few months ago. cause, he can not compete with the retail chain. so, for next few year. you will see more and more indirect dealer are going to close them door. because, the major carries are not fear of loose them. you know why. it cost almost every indirect dealer between 30k-50k to build a store. and after few months of years. they have to close out. why would any one want to become the indirect dealer anymore. i think all the major carries are need to look the retail chain and indirect dealer the same. need to offer same commission and discount cross the borad. and try to put everyone on the same level of service. having the indirect dealer and retail chain to provide the same customer service like the corp store and customer care. don't make any different between them. casue, if the carries are making different between them, that also mean different customer service that customer will get from different locations. plus, all the indirect dealer need to provide the same service like corp.

I have been trying to activate my droid 2 global now, but they keep saying it is associated with a pre-paid phone. back at best buy, the same thing has happened with several others. not sure what is going on
