Known for crippling phones in the past, it appears as if the nation's largesr carrier is turning over a new leaf as suggested by CEO Lowell McAdam just a few days ago...

WinMo 6.5 being out around the same time an in time for Verizon to ship it on the phone are 2 different things!

another douche bag comment in a phonearena article....no way...your right some things never change

Seriously..are you kidding me? I can honestly see if they were crippling the device in a way that you can't do anything about it. But just because it doesn't ship with WinMo 6.5 isn't exactly "crippling" anything. If you had an ounce of knowledge about mobile devices, you would know that an upgrade to WinMo 6.5 is going to be free and easy; as soon as VZW verifies that it would work well with their version of the device. That's what they did with earlier WinMo phones as well. Besides, version 6.5 hasn't really had a real "road test" yet so why would you want to have it on your device? I say, let them test how WinMo works on some other device and as soon as I see most of the bugs ( and it will have bugs ) worked out, then I will upgrade. But you are right, some things never change: like Phone Arena's bias and assinine comments like this.

its sucks that its so easy to upgrade the winmo verison on the phone on ones own

So the verizon version is essentially a different model seeing as how it has different hardware specs. VZDUB holdin' it down.

Lol I agree people hands are dirty..which one would you choose diamond 2 or omnia II trying to decide

9. trentsinmypants posted on 09 Aug 2009, 11:22

isnt it up to HTC on what size the screen is and not VZW?

10. endokun83 posted on 09 Aug 2009, 13:24

it's actually an agreement between the carrier and phone manufacturer. HTC will build a preliminary model and present it to VZW. VZW will analize the model and then ask the manufacturer to make changes. i.e. add vz navigator support, increase or decrease memory, add rhapsody support etc... The manufacturer and the carrier will go back and forth until they can come to term with the specs of the handset in question. Which is also why US releases of cell phones usually take so long

Yeah... sometimes carrier demands can be a good thing, but at the same time incredibly annoying for a producer... Apple has it easy... they make one device, support one OS, and push it out the same everywhere around the world... HTC makes tons of devices, supports WinMo and Android (market firsts for both operating systems since their conception) and has to ship to tons of different carriers all over the world and meet all the demands of the carriers in the US... talk about running yourself ragged... But I applaud HTC for putting up with rediculous US demands on certain things... I just wish HTC had put their foot down on releasing the Raphael for VZW (Their TP)... what a piece of junk.
