Verizon trying to acquire Vodafone's stake

Verizon Communications Inc. has voiced once again the cdompany's intentions to focus its efforts on the acquisition of the Vodafone's 45% share in Verizon Wireless. The two companies jointly control Verizon Wireless, which is the number two wireless carrier, operating on the U.S. market. This probably was provoked by the AT&T's announcement yesterday, when the company revealed that it is going to acquire BellSouth, thus uniting the management and control of the the nation's largest wireless carrier Cingular. Although Vodafone is planning to sell its Japanese unit, the company claimed that it hasn't changed its previous position in reference to Verizon Wireless, i.e. that it doesn't have current plans to sell its share. This is the second time Verizon Communications Inc. expresses interest in acquiring Vodafone's stake in Verizon Wireless. The first time was at the end of January, as pnonearena.com informed back then.
