Verizon to work with The Daily to release Android app

If you're a fan of exclusive software, and you're a Verizon customer, then this story is for you. As we saw yesterday, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 is getting a special version on Verizon which will feature an LTE radio and a Super AMOLED screen. Apparently though, it will also have a baked-in copy of The Daily.
If you don't know, The Daily is the first daily "newspaper" for the iPad. It is run by NewsCorp (WSJ, New York Post, Rupert Murdoch), and has been received quite well by users. Until now though, it has been iPad only. Now it seems that Verizon has made a deal with The Daily to bring it to Android on select devices.

Although it will be baked-in to the Galaxy Tab 7.7 at launch, the app is planned to come to the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 first. The Daily is a subscription app which will cost $3.99 per month or $39.99 per year, although Verizon users will get a week free trial. There's no word on if The Daily will be exclusive to Verizon, or if it will be a timed-exclusive that will make its way to the rest of the Android ecosystem at some point.

Great...with all the raping Verizon has done, you get "free" access to an app that you have to pay for. Thanks for the exclusivity, Verizon. More bloatware and the like.

Sure... I'll pay for a news app when I could just go to any .com version of a news site for free. Sounds like a plan. :-|
