Verizon Wireless is planning to bundle app packages with some of its own creations, and distribute them for a fee. The first one will include VZ Navigator, NFL Mobile, ringback tones and Verizon Video, and cost $12.99 per month when it lands a few weeks from now...

Wow, first smart VZW app decision in ages.

Should throw in VVM as well.

Ripoff. Will Verizon ever do something for free for their customers? Sprint gives 75% of these features for free with their Android smart phone. The only one not given by Sprint is ringback tones..... but who is using them still?

Can't see this lasting long..VW is already the most expensive carrier in the US..But you pay for what you get.. I'm just trying to figure out why would I go out and buy NFL Mobile...It's Free already in the market....Navigator--when the Google Maps app is probably the BEST FREE APP in the market....I really don't know what else they can offer besides what is already in the market that is free...VW Video--Ok, you got VEVO & Youtube already free in the market....(the only thing I see is ringback tones)...that's not a $12.99 value to me....but for some it may--but you can purchase ringbacks @ .99 cents a pop each....and who uses a ringback anymore.....I guess this is the next move for VW since the $2.00 fee for paying your bill was overruled...just calling a spade a spade and keeping the consumer informed!!!!

The package they are referring to is for basic phones, not smartphones.

NFL Mobile is free, but you have to pay a subscription fee for Verizon Video to watch live games on it. YouTube and Vevo are free in the market, but you can't watch recent TV shows on them like you can on Verizon Video. Google Maps is free in the market but it's still in beta unlike VZ Navigator; it even warns about using it. I agree with your comments about ringtones and I speculate that VZW reversing the decision to add a $2 charge was a planned move by them to create the illusion that they care about customers and not just getting their dollars. Now if the subscription fees are included in the bundles, then it's a good deal. If the subscription fees aren't included requiring buyers of the bundle to pay individual subscriptions for the apps i addition to paying for the bundles, then only VZW fan boys will be buying the bundles and your assumption that they're trying to make up for the 2 dollar charge will have merit. Hopefully, VZW is turning over a new leaf in the customer satisfaction department.

NeoNManic - The last time I checked the NFL Mobile app wasn't available for basic phones.

Where does it state that this is intended for basic phones?
