Verizon stores receiving shipments of Motorola Droid and HTC Droid Eris

Maybe there's no need to be there at 6am, as Verizon stores get a large shipment of Android phones...

It's not as simple as nh1234 suggests. In fact most places in China have only GSM service, while some, in particular the larger cities, have both CDMA and GSM. If you bore down from nh1234's page tohttp://b2b.vzw.com/international/Roaming/Asia-Pacific/China.html you'll see that Verizon's map for all of China shows only GSM service. (They don't seem to have a mechanism for displaying places with both CDMA and GSM.) Sprint's site (http://www1.sprintpcs.com/explore/coverage/internationalroaming/Search.jsp - search for China) does a much better job of breaking down exactly what systems and speeds are available in every city. I've used my Sprint CDMA phone in Beijing and Shanghai but it's not usable in many other places. I'm not certain that the CDMA areas Sprint identifies are all available to Verizon CDMA phones, but clearly both the Verizon and Sprint sites contradict the claim that the CDMA Droid would generally work in China.

hmmm. bro i think 2 people already answered your question. probably certain parts. but as they said gsm is more prevalent in foreign countries.

RJT... A phone doesn't need to be labeled global to work in other countries. CDMA phones that aren't labeled global which work in CDMA networks that operate on the same frequencies. New Zealand, parts of Australia, South Korea, Japan, Mexico, Mainland China, parts of South America, and Canada will work with ALL VERIZON PHONES! Don't need to have global in the name. GLOBAL UMTS/GSM/CDMA hybrids are labeled GLOBAL becuase they will work EVERYWHERE!

Just wish I could put off my next trip until the Motorola Zeppelin appears - reportedly the first Android world phone.

its not entirely accurate either. cdma may be offered in in china, south america, etc, but i know at least in south america cdma will only give you voice coverage. You will still need a Quad band GSM or GSM/CDMA device to use data in south america, which i travel to about 2-3 times a year. I don't know about the other places, but as everyone on here suggests, call vzw global support to check which CDMA services are available in china and other places to be sure. Also, CDMA actually covers as large of a percentage of the population as GSM, although most places with CDMA also have GSM (China, India, U.S., Indonesia, and South America). The only places that are GSM-only (no CDMA) are all of Europe, Russia, parts of Africa and Asia.
