Verizon says a phone doesn’t need to be pretty in the new chapter of Ad Wars
They just won’t stop it, will they? Well, that works perfectly well for us as we are having a great time watching AT&T’s and Verizon’s silly little ad fights, right? And guess what – the two leading carriers have now come up with one new ad each, and this time the idea behind AT&T’s commercial is somewhat funnier than Big Red’s approach. Once again, the DROID has gotten a visually superior piece of video, which basically tells viewers that a phone doesn’t need to be good-looking, but capable and fast. Alright, the ad may look cool, but wait until you see what AT&T has prepared – way more amusing and thought out. Just hit the play button and enjoy!

irrelevant, use your google voice number on friends and family, and you essentially have unlimited calling for the price of a 900 minute plan (or 1400 if on a family share plan... that's what I've done, 5 people on a 1400 minute family share plan with google voice = better value on the best network)

Droid has suckier apps, it is a terrible device for corporate use, and its slower then the iphone 3GS.... The only thing the Droid does is suck...

Nearly 1,000,000 people disagree with you. Although the Droid may have some limitations, so does the iphone. No phone can be all things to all people. Oh, and the apps are stellar... and not policed by Mom Apple. Android can have anything, even if Google doesn't "agree" with it.

Listen lolipopjones. I own an iPhone and I do like it, but you are one of the many idiots who give us a bad name. If youre going to bash anything give good reasons instead of sounding like a fool. Please stop perpetuating the thought that all iPhone owners are as moronic as yourself.

deago78... That was one of the most intelligent posts I've seen in awhile.

i have found more than enough apps for me. imap support for the droid is much better than on my old bb storm. and i think it's very fast in everything....DORID FTW.

Just trying to show that not all iPhone users are apple obsessed drones without the capacity to think logically my friend.

So then the "value" is only to those that have android phones.... all the people with handsets are boned. by the way "best network" is subjective

Nope, any phone can use Google Voice. Best meaning largest and most reliable, and by some tests, even the fastest. If a network is not reliable, it's like having an awesome car with no gas. Pretty to look at... like the iphone, but rendered useless.

Yet again though, AT&T defines 3G as their highest speed 3.6mega bits per second or 7.2 mega bits per second depending. Verizon defines theirs as anything from 1X up. And neither 1X or 2X are faster than AT&T's edge coverage.

So just wondering are you taking offense at Verizon's commercials because you are an iPhone fan or an AT&T fan? I'll be the first to say that the iPhone is an awesome device, but the iPhone on AT&T's network basically turns the phone into an iPod Touch. The iPhone's Achille's heel has always been AT&T's network and terrible call quality and reception. That will all change when their exclusivity runs out.

deago78... AT&T has great bandwidth, unfortunately I've never seen the so called speeds. I have both Verizon and AT&T, my AT&T phone lacks phone coverage about 2/3rds of the time that my Verizon phone has coverage and the data is a joke. Even in a big city like Dallas it's slow. It has to do with the communication method for AT&T. I've only gone to one place in Texas that AT&T had better coverage then Verizon and it was for around 20-30 minutes driving through.

I'm not really taking offense at all. I'm also not really a fan of the iPhone or AT&T. The only reason I have them is so I can buy phones with legitimate specs that never end up coming to America, or take so long that they are outdated before they arrive. I'm just stating the logical point that AT&T is upset about. 3G is an arbitrary term when it comes to defining data speeds. You could call it "cabbage patch kid" and it would define speed with the same accuracy. So verizon getting a boost to their members because of a truthful, but easily misinterpretable statement is a very legitimate reason for AT&T to be upset. Most people don't have any clue about any of this and would probably interpret their map as meaning they arent able to use their phone there. The people who know a small amount about phones would most likely interpret it as verizon having faster data speeds in those area. Neither of these are true, but, brilliantly I might add, verizon took full advantage of the general population's ignorance of these matters.

32. deago78 posted on 02 Dec 2009, 20:14

That very well may be true, and given your experience with both companies, I have no reason to doubt it. I cannot really from personal experience with verizon unfortunately. That is one reason, among many others, that I never bash them. I become thoroughly annoyed with the many members on this site who denounce one thing or another with no legitimate reasoning or knowledge of what they complain about, so I try not to be one of them.

Deago while I appreciate your argument I have to disagree with some of your statements. While the definition of 3g can be vague Verizon states their 3g coverage consists of Rev 0 and Rev A data tiers. Rev A being the fastest and the largest of the 2 clocking in right around 1mb a sec. Rev 0 which is older is about 600k. Both of those speeds are considerably faster than the Edge network. Now ATTs 3g network does claim it runs in the 3 -7mb range. In all honesty I have yet to see any iphone or ATT phone ever hit those numbers. I live in a city that is a major ATT market, that has alot better coverage than most cities and average speeds I see are 1-1.3s. Personally if you look at the campgain that states ATT is the "fastest 3g network" I feel thats misleading because their 7mbs claims not real world numbers, and every review site/article I can find on it says the same.

I had the kaiser/TyTnII/Tilt from HTC on AT&T. I didn't buy it from AT&T, but it registered it's HSDPA bands and I recieved between 3 and 6 /sec most of the time. Also, even if AT&T's claim of 7mbs is false and within the 1-1.3mb range that still wouldn't make their claim false would it? As you said at the beginning of your post, their speed is right around 1mbs on RevA.

thats the best droid commercial yet

VZW .. you trade in your storm on a droid?

20. vzw fanman posted on 02 Dec 2009, 10:41

that was the best commercial yet. and blackberryuser, i think you mean me, i did trade in my storm for the droid and its 10X better. :-)

Yeah, my question was for you. We've had conversations on these forums about the Storm a few times.
