I wish you guys would shut up and get educated before you have verbal runs."For your information LTE is the 4G path for GSM not CDMA !!!!" LTE is a GSM-based technology but both CDMA and GSM based companies will be able to adopt it. This is not new news, all that is involved is placing a GSM radio in the supported devices. This has been done in the 8830 world edition blackberry, same concept. So, YOU'RE WRONG! Verizon is not the future, cellular in general is the future. There will always be competition. I work for verizon and so I am very enthusiastic when it comes to hoorahs like this, but I am also not a freak super fan boy either, you people make me sick. @ pings: Verizon DOES count their prepays, this is required for the reports, they are required by LAW to report using the same standards as the other companies in the industry. We DO HAVE MORE CONTRACTS though, but MUCH MUCH less prepays, this is the offset you are referencing... And to #25, verizon has ALREADY UPGRADED PHONES TO REV A, hence the new PTT devices rolling out this summer. The PTT is going to be the same speed as Sprint's PTT due to the fact that both companies will use the same EVDO REV A to transport the data, thus only leaving the coverage and handsets to determine the quality of service. I don't think people are giving this decision by verizon enough credit. This will be a major industry shift. Sprint will no longer have a superiour PTT network, Verizon will have to start from scratch but combined with our phenomenal network, PTT on verizon should be an easy decision for consumers! Can't wait for the new C711!

My point is.....Verizon is chosen to take the natural GSM evolution path as opposed to the 3GPP2 CDMA evolution path UMB. So i don't want anyone to say that CDMA is the future and verizon is this and that....if CDMA was the future...why didnt Verizon mor to UMB not LTE ?????? Huh......Verizon has a great Network and i can't say anything about that...but they are not a GSM Carrier, they are CDMA ! and plus CDMA phone suck ass !!!! GSM handsets are soooo much better in every aspect !!!

Well then on the same note why didn't Sprint stick with a cdma or gsm technology? They chose WiMax over them all. LTE had better tests in the labs so the carriers went with it. Besides its not technically a GSM technology it's just part of the GSM roadmap.

how does cdma phones suck considering most companies make models for all carriers? (i.e. moto, palm, htc)

Simply put you guys have way too much free time and need to grow up and get a life. Find yourself a woman. If it happens it happens and there is nothing anyone of you can do about it. What will be will be. You cant change it. Oh, and one more thing...Everyones commits are (some not all) are strictly opinions. No need to blow/fry any brain cells. " To each is his own."

does this mean verizon will slap their HORRIBLE user interface on alltel phones? hopefully alltel will keep its ui & features instead of letting verizon retard their phones with their interface.

40. (unregistered) posted on 05 Jun 2008, 08:13

You know I understand where everyone comes from with the User interface issue, but Verizon does it for a reason. Yes the majority of us that are on these sites are upset that Verizon dumbs down the interface or replaces them or whatever you want to say. Truth of the matter is that Verizon does that for the people that aren't on these sites. For the people that want simplicity in their phones. The goal is to make a mostly uniform menu setup. My wish is that they would include the original themes/menus if you wanted to switch to them, but they don't. Verizon is smart. They appeal themselves to a majority of consumers. Doing what they do has them in position to go #1. They are already #1 in the every category that really matters. Including most post-pay customers and lowest industry churn for the past like 3 or 4 years straight. So they are obviously doing something right. prepay is nice and all, but its very unreliable and nowhere near a major focus of Verizons. They do have some good prepay plans that they believe in, but they don't have huge ad campaigns for prepay like you see with the GoPhone. It's just not where they focus. Prepay is the ONLY reason that AT&T has more customers than VZW. PostPay v PostPay Verizon already wins hands down.

If this goes through, then Verizon would allow the Alltel device to work under the new "Open Netowrk" plan.

42. (unregistered) posted on 05 Jun 2008, 09:15

Honestly i hope this becomes the beginning of VZW letting all their customers put any phone they want on the network....I want the HTC Diamond!!! or LG 5 MP phone

43. (unregistered) posted on 05 Jun 2008, 09:37

Those are GSM, so that's not going to happen. They will only CDMA phones to be activated.

No vzw is going to also have an open network. This will allow devices that meet a set of basic standards to be used on the vzw network.
