I thought they already had all this with Rhapsody.

Not exactly. The pricing structure differs from Rhapsody which is just a straight 99c per song. The problem with Rhapsody is that it could be confusing for some people and ended up with some people subscribing when they didn't want to. This is something I've been calling on for a while and I believe will open the store to people outside of the VZW network. It's now more direct competition for iTunes and Amazon. This is one of those opportunities I felt VZW had to step outside of the wireless world and compete on a broader market. If marketed properly I think it makes VZW's media phones stronger and more competitive and will open the door for all VZW devices to compete better with the likes of the iPhone and G1

I see your point. Are they gonna make this for VZW customers only or will it be for anyone?

This isn't much of an announcement if its just for VZW customers, they've had this for a long time in the form of VCast Music. You could download music on your phone and then download a copy to your PC using VCast Music or just download a copy straight to the PC and then copy it to your phone for 99c. That's the way it was so if they've just changed the pricing structure, this would be just a ridiculous announcement that means nothing. Then again they announced the Nokia Intrigue at CTIA which has been on sale for at least a week prior.
