Verizon intros the Blitz
We're not sure what to make of Verizon's newest offering this week. The Blitz has a "My First Sony" look to it, which is suppose to appeal to kids and teens that might not be ready for the enV2 or Voyager. It features a large 2.2" 220x176 pixel TFT display, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 1.3MP camera, Bluetooth, Mobile Web 2.0, microSD memory card slot, and supports VCast Music with Rhapsody. Pricing is set at $69.99 after $50 rebate with a 2-year contract.

Kids have a greater sense of aesthetics than the old guys over at the phone companies give them credit for... I doubt this heap will be flying off the shelves, even if it does perform well.

i think its a cute little phone that is just enogh for even a grown up. im 36 and i enjoy being able to have the phone in my pocket and its bluetooth compat. i had the old version from the same company but i couldnt use bluetooth. and with the economy the way it is, grownup will make a practical decision and not get hooked on looks. and last i checked the store in new york in my borough sold out. so get over the color choice and pick a good phone. besides when its open it looks just like a blackberry without the price.

I have seen this thing in action, it is as all of have said about being ugly, it is not the best looking. It does however perform well, better than most current verizon phones. As for the kids and tweens liking the phone, most don't really care about music and video, or even mobile web, they have ipods for that, if not an Iphone. I think the blitz will do well, its a cheap, sturdy phone with a qwerty keyboard, and 1.3 mp cam. Most kids and tweens only text msg, they rarely use the phone for talking. I think its a perfect starter phone.

I work at VZW. This phone was released today and I must say that it really looks good in person ( now that we have the LIVE version instead of the dummy phone ). I've already sold about six of them ... all to the "under 21" crowd. Navigation really takes some getting used to. The buttons are really easy to the touch and so far, call quality is very good. The menus are very clear on screen and the phone looks and feels great. I honestly thought this was a horrible phone since it's made my UTStarcomm ( it uses the same charger as the Coupe ). A few things I don't understand..... it's the only VZW megapixel camera phone that doesn't do video and although it's listed as Rhapsody-capable , it isn't VCast-capable.... and if anyone is having issues with the included USB cable when transferring data to and from the phone, you can obtain the "secret menu" by tapping *#7678 and End ( in that sequence ). For people with big hands, it fits real easy in your palm. But since it is made by UTSTarcomm, the jury is still out on it.

I've read some of the posts on here and I have one question for most of you: What are you ... like 12 years old? The phone is ugly, it's a digivice ... is this the best material you can come up with? I bet most of you didn't even TRY the damn thing and made your judgement based on the pictures that you see here. It really is a cool looking and feeling device ... real easy to text with. You'll be surprised when you actually take the time to try something for yourself instead of following the masses.

Oh, so I should try a daewoo so I can see how awesome it is? No. Its simple logic. LOOKS MATTER. No one wants to carry around a phone that looks like a gameboy. Especially when there are really good looking phones that do more things. Plus, its probably UTStarcom trying to be different again. Trust me, no one will be blitzing to get this phone.

Ummm, NO!! Sorry !!! Looks in fact DON'T always matter. I see a lot of business people carrying around Blackberries because of its reliability ... although the phones will definitely NOT win any beauty contests. The same logic applies here. Not everything is worried about how the phone looks, and quite honestly, I HAVE seen it in person....and it's not a bad looking phone at all. Your post goes to show why some people are really clueless in this world. A phone could be horrible with service but as long as it looks cool and plays music and does other things of non-importance, you would spend a grip on it. What happens when the next so-called "cool" looking phone comes along. I bet you're willing to shell out a mortgage payment just to get it. Why? Cause it's cool. So far, I've seen about three people with this new Blitz. The only reason I wouldn't get it is because I already have the XV6800 ( another "ugly" phone ). See? Not EVERYBODY goes by looks. I would hate to see how you would buy a car. "Well, the engine isn't that good, the carburator is shot, and it gets crappy gas mileage .... but it's a really cool looking car ...." Some people.

*eye roll* Oh PLEASE! Uh, a blackberry can be ugly, and so can an XV6800, because they do ten times more than this blitz crap. WHY would someone choose the blitz over the enV2, Voyager, Alias, Glyde, or any other normal looking texting device? And were not talking about cars. We're talking about a texting phone for teens. And if you want to be on of those "beautiful on the inside!" people, go right ahead. Me and the rest of the world will continue to live out lives happily without this phone.

You and the rest of WHAT world? The Paris Hilton world? I guess you too like things that are HOT looking. Yes, I realize the Blitz aren't the xv6800 or a Blackberry but you're completely missing the point. There are definitely phones that look better thans those two phones but it's all about functionality to some ... at least the ones with brains. Nobody said a damn thing about beauty on the inside. It can ugly on the inside as well as long as the device does what I want it to do. As for the "we're not talking about cars" comment, I was making a comparison as to how a consumer shops for products. Do you NOT know what an analogy is? Why would someone choose the blitz over the those other four phones you mentioned? Well, you might as well eliminate the "touch horrible" Glyde and the " I can't keep a charge and half my features don't work" Alias. Oh, that's right ... they're cool-looking. Someone idiot like you would get them anyway. The enV2 is OK at best because it only offers the great looking internal screen and keyboard but let's be honest... it's one of those "ugly" phones as well. The Voyager is the only worthy opponent here, buddy. But the Voyager, Glyde, and enV2 all cost more than the Blitz ( trust me, the enV2's price WILL go back up ). Did you at least TRY the Blitz? Cause like one the posters said ... he has sold a lot of those phones to the "under 21" crowd. Hmmmm, seems like it ain't always about being the best LOOKING. Just because the rest of the world lives on looks, it doesn't mean I should follow their ways. Candy....looks good, taste good, but will do damage to your system. Broccoli... looks bad, taste bad, will keep you around longer. By the way, that's another AN-AL-O-GY!!!! In case you didn't know.

I honestly don't know why everyone is calling this phone so ugly. It's black, dark blue and sort of round.... I don't get it. I really don't care what my phone looks like anyways, I'm trying to find out how well it works. I'm thinking about getting one of these and the only reviews that have helped me on this page is the guy that actually works at VZW and has actually physically used the phone. I don't even know why half you dummies even bother to write a review based on the looks of the phone. We can see the picture and decide for ourselves. Anyways, thanks VZW guy for the only useful review!

I've actually tried this phone myself. It is supremely easy to text with because the buttons on the keyboard are very responsive..albeit a little bit on the small side for me. Sound quality seems to be good on the phone as well. I think the reason the features were pared down some, was to appeal to the parents of the tween target for the phone. The color is nice and bright, as is the screen. The phone would easily fit in a pocket, not problem. All in all, a neat little starter phone, definitely. Hope that helps! lol

I have this phone, just got it yesterday, and I love it. I'm 20 years old and I really like the way it looks and the way it works. The functionality is wonderful. The battery lasts as far as I can tell, I love that it's bright but if someone is calling you in the middle of the night you don't have to worry about it blinding you either. The messaging is easy, wouldn't recommend it to anyone who has large fingers though. The sound quality is awesome on it and I love how compact it is and easy to use!

we actually had 2 teens that were WAITING for this phone to come out. I have no idea why. The envy2 is only 10 bux more expencive, and does a heck of alot more. This thing isnt even EVDO!! Also, the keyboard is obviously ment for people with pencils for fingers as it just does not work for any sizable hands

@19, if you want to talk about under the hood, how about for 10 bucks more an env2 will give you twice as good a camera and evdo. Im a vzdub employee and i write this surrounded by said phones, if you really are a vzw employee, you should be ashamed of yourself for pushing this piece of crap on people for two years. You and I both know they will hate this after the first thirty days but wont return it within the first thirty.

No, I think YOU should be ashamed of YOURSELF for talking down on a phone that hasn't been out a week yet. Yes, I had the honor messing with the phone for a few days, and my opinion of does not change. I've sold many of them so far and no complaints yet. I don't doubt that the enV2 is a great phone but don't put on the "high horse". That microscopic outer screen was a major mistake and the camera quality is horrible ... even in perfect lighting. That alone is a major drawback from the original enV. I've seen a lot of phones NOT returned during the 30 day period and still people hated the thing. That's technology. You either love it or hate it ... but some people only return things simply cause they want the next cool item ... no matter how good the phone they currently have is. You call yourself an employee? Thank you for insulting the customer's taste. Whether you like it or not, not everyone will agree with you. And so far, the enV2 is LG's most refunded phone right now ( among the current handsets ). Check up on it.

I too work at VZW. You're right, the enV2 is currently our most refunded LG brand phone. At least in our store anyway. The Blitz is very odd looking but I like the way it feels. It's different. I like that. And no one has complained about the look so far. Most people that come into the store are actually intrigued by it. I like the enV2 and all but the buttons inside sometimes feel like the are hard to push in, like they will pop out or something. I really don't like the outer screen and the fact that the outside menu only goes up and down. And quite honestly, the camera's picture quality is nothing to write home about. The only thing that scares me about the Blitz is what the poster in comment #18 said. It's a UTStarcomm phone.

wow, both of you are smoking crack. I dont need a week with this phone to know its worthless. The env2 is your most refunded phone? Really? I dont believe that for a moment. The samsung 340 or maybe the chocolate 3, maybe. Have fun with your terrible phones and pissed off and insulted customers!

Hmmm....let's see. Over 30 Blitzes sold and not one complaint yet. As for the most refunded phone ... you might want to take the time and actually READ a post instead of making an ass outta yourself. Post #34 clearly states that the enV2 is LG's ... I repeat ... LG'S ... most refunded phone. Where the hell did the Samsung 340 come from? The Chocolate 3, believe it or not, has more to offer than the enV2 ... like built in FM transmitter, Rhapsody capability, and the ability to read your text message on the OUTSIDE screen as well. The enV2 can do NONE of those things. And before you make a comment about the enV2 being "rhapsody-capable" because it says so in the employee Equipment Guide, .... DON'T!!! Cause if you go to Verizon's site and look for rhapsody capable phones, the enV2 isn't there. It's only available for music purchases via Rhapsody, NOT the unlimited streaming you get with the Chocolate 3, Dare, etc. Even the sorry ass Samsung 550 is rhapsody capable. Please do your homework before posting.

well seing as how you said it was YOUR most refunded phone and not LG's i fail to see the logic in your response. Cool, i wasnt going to say it was rhapsody capable, paying for music is moronic. The choc3 is terrible it was an example of a more returned phone. Your reasons for why one phone is better than the other makes no sense. I dont give a damn about the fm transmitter or raphsody, nor do the customers. The battery life on the chocolate 3 is a joke, that is why it sucks. The blitz is bigger than a q without any of the funcionality, its overpriced, ugly, and there are pleny of other handsets aside from the masterful env2 that do a much better job, that is why it sucks. I am done with your little pms rant, have fun being an embaressment to vzw.

Enough is enough. To #46...I've read that guy's post over and over and I still don't understand why you see things that aren't there. He clearly said that it was LG'S most refunded phone at his location ... not everywhere and not every phone manufacturer. The Blitz is not overpriced as it is geared at the tween market. Just because you don't like don't mean someone else won't. I've already tried it, it really is a cool phone ... even to this 28 yr old. You calling phone ugly really shows your immaturity and I'm pretty sure there are better handsets than the Blitz but it is a basic texting phone with a QWERTY keyboard. Why is that so hard for you to understand? It's not meant to compete with other V Cast phones, just be a basic keyboard phone ... that's all. The real embarrasment to VZW is YOURSELF. I've never seen someone chop down a handset before it saw the light of day all because of its looks. So tell me, you mean to say that if 20 people came into your store hell bent on buying new lines and getting the Blitz on those lines, you would turn them away to something else? I'm pretty sure you would but if I did my homework on a phone, messed with via people who already have it, and decided I liked it too, you would still try to put me in something else? I really hope you're not in sales.

The first time I saw this phone was the day after it came out. I loved it on the spot. It is perfect for me....it fits in the palm of my hand like a pad of sticky notes, has a nice, big, easily readible front screen and I don't have to open the darn thing to talk on it. Texting is a breeze with it, and navigation is pretty self-explanatory. For the most part you never have to slide it open unless texting. For those that like the enV2, you don't have to flip the phone open to see what you are doing. It's thin enough to fit into a back pocket and doesn't look like a cheap piece of metal and plastic. Like I said, perfect for me!
