Verizon introduces the LG Extravert for pre-paid customers

For those who need just a basic phone without a lot of high-end features, you can now choose from the new LG Extravert. It comes with a 4-row QWERTY keyboard that slides away under the 2.8" WQVGA (400x240) touch-screen TFT display. Other features on the LG Extravert include multiple home screens, 2MP camera, 320x240 video recording, music player, 3.5mm headset jack, Bluetooth 3.0, and supports up to 32GB microSDHC memory cards.

Amen. The Dare and the Voyager had so MANY more features than "feature phones" of today.

This is honestly an interesting idea. Smartphone OS without 3G/4G capabilities, thus excluding it from the $29.99 data package. I wonder what the odds of this phone becoming eligible for $50 unlimited are.
That is Android I am seeing on it's screen right? If not it is a great look-a-like.

It's a gussied-up Cosmos Touch.

It is LG's standard interface for BREW... not Android. Unfortunately, smartphones from back in the day also required premium-priced data plans... even though they often did not have 3G data, and instead ran on EDGE or 1xRTT. T-Mobile and Sprint had the cheapest data plans I can remember... T-Mo gave you everything and anything you could get on EDGE for $19.99/month (including tethering), while Sprint's base "Power Vision" plan, at $15, got you what most people needed for their smart devices with the advantage of Ev-DO speeds in most cases.

Verizon may have the best network amongst the largest carriers, but their prepaid phones suck.
I hope the head of the prepaid unit wake up before more customers defect. Beside their crappy selection , their prepaid plans are quite expensive as well.

50 a month for unlimited everything isn't expensive, it's a great deal. I just hope you're ok with 1x speeds and lame phones. But if you shell out enough for prepaid smartphones you can still get unlimited data for 29.99.... Not many ppl know that though.

Sorry but I have to disagree with you, that is not true when you compare Verizon prepaid against say Virgin Mobile.
I have the Triumph with 300 anytime minutes AND unlimited 3G data all for $25 a month. Now, the same plan cost $35 and that deal is what I call a great deal.

Your talking strictly price.virgin mobiles coverage doesn't hold a candle to the wind to Verizon's. Nor do their data speeds, And you also have limited min. But every consumer is different. I know ppl who have AT&T because it's 5$ a month cheaper and they freely admit they don't care about the service issues they have, and they admitted their service was marginal. I don't get it personally, but that's just me.

Sorry, I am talking price and device:
Price $25 for Virgin
Device: Motorola Triumph with 4.1" screen, 5 MP shooter and stock android 2.2
As for data speed, it's 3G so it's not a big deal for me.

Service is highly subjective. It depends very much on where you live and where you like to travel. It also depends on which services of the carrier you actually use more often. I am on AT&T, and I have never had service issues anywhere that Verizon doesn't around here. AT&T is marginal in things like call clarity, customer service, and the like, but I have never had to call their customer care department for anything, ever, and the call clarity improved a lot when I had phones that could access the 3G network (which, by the way, also handles voice traffic, whereas Verizon's Ev-DO "3G" does not). If I wanted to be on the internet all the time on my phone, and needed it to be fast and reliable all the time, then I would have to shell out the dough to Verizon... once their LTE coverage makes it here, which will probably not be for quite a while, and until then AT&T's HSPA (not +) is the fastest it gets around here... but, I could care less about that right now. I will gladly save my $5 or whatever. For my purposes, with all things being equal here, I will go for the less expensive option.
