Regardless of how you feel about Apple as a company, the one thing you can't argue with is the exceptional design quality of everything Apple from the devices all the way up to the Apple Stores themselves. It's also...

I think companies need to find their own identities instead of copy Apple. One of the reasons Apple is so popular is they're unique.

Apple isn't popular because it is unique. It's popular because it is easy to use and has the craziest marketing juggernaut around.
Besides, every store should go paperless and give more services to help customers understand and learn to use the products. That's not "copying Apple", that's just smart business.

You yourself wrote the layout of the store is Applesque. Apple does make great products true, but they also make unique products and they're not afraid to take chances. Verizon can go paperless without copying the design and layout of an Apple store. Microsoft tried the same thing recently by making their stores replicas of Apple stores.
Also look at the tablet game and how many got into after Apple with the vast majority failing. Kindle fire has been successful by making a unique product and not necessarily trying to be like Apple.

actually the Kindle Fire was successful by giving you a lot of bang for the buck as far as the hardware to what you pay for it. And the amazon app store, kindle, etc. services helped give it a good ecosystem too.

Very good point Gallito. The best selling android tablet by far also has the worst specs.

actually the Kindle Fire has some of the best specs. it's a good deal more powerful than your run of the mill Tegra II tablets like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 and the XOOM. the only ones more powerful are the Xyboards, the Prime and the Galaxy Tab 7.7.
