Verizon adds visual voicemail for Galaxy Nexus to Android Market

You can see it as a good sign or a slap in the face. Either way, Verizon has released its visual voicemail app for Ice Cream Sandwich into the Android Market, of course no one has the phone to actually use said app...

It was just an excruciatingly lame attempt at trolling.
It's possible that this person is SO ignorant that they don't realize that Android isn't married to one hardware company, like Apple is... but people that ignorant probably don't care to read tech blogs anyway. Or comment even.

Google shouldn't have let VZW have this phone! VZW is obviously a bunch of idiots, and the have made mockery of this whole thing. Google should be held responsible for letting a company treat their number one flagship phone like its a sh*t stain. Why wouldn't Google handle the marketing and release dates? Apple would never let this happen and I dont have a iPhone. What a joke. Google looks lost and Verizon looks like they don't want this phone to out sell their current line up. In reality cell phones sell themselves, i.e (Samsung Galaxy line, iPhone, Pure Google), people who buy these phones already know they're going to get them before they are released. We dont need to be bombarded with cheesy ads (Droid line). Announce the phone phone specs and give a release date and it will sell if its as good as you say, but the 'tards at VZW don't realize this.

Has anyone used Verizon Visual VM and Google Voice VM?
Is VZW's version better?

Google Voice itself is an entire suite of features. And it's free. So yeah, I'd say it's better. The only complaint people really have about it is that you have to give everyone a new number, but big freakin deal. Even if they leave a voicemail on your old number, the Google Voice app can set the service to capture those voicemails, so you still get transcribed voicemails in your app.
And if you just change your cell number in FB and your friends happen to sync their phones with FB, then they'll automatically get your new number.
Short version: Try it out, it's awesome.

sorry, but you are misinformed about Google Voice.
You used to have to get a new number to sign up for GV.. but you could just use the visual voicemail feature and link it to your VZW voicemail. That's what I did.. people call my REGULAR cell number and the messages go to GV.
GV was also changed to allow you to ONLY sign up for the voicemail service and not get a new number.
I can't see how anyone would want to pay 2.99 a month when everything you need is right with GV.. you even get the CRAZY text translation! lol

I have used both versions. I am a fan of the Verizon VVM but the fact that it costs $3 a month when such features are free on the iPhone makes no sense to me. I have to agree though, that Google Voice has the upper hand. Not only do you get a second number that you may call and text from, you get a visual voicemail that is transcribed for you (some of the time) and you also have the ability to manage/listen to messages from the website.

I am with Sprint and apparently have no chance of getting the GN unfortunately, if I was on VZW I feel slighted at the way they are handling this. Is it VZWs phone or Google's? Like I said ultimately its Google's fault for letting VZW dogged the whole deal to save their own sells numbers. When you only have one phone launch per year and you wanna out duel the iPhone, this is how not how to do it! Google should revoke their exclusivity!

True google messed up letting vwz handle this launch. If it wasn't for vwz strong signal in nyc I would have clipped them already and go elsewhere.

Relax peoe. There are free apps for VVM, so you don't have to pay for it. :)
