Verizon Wireless selects Lucent for its EV-DO Rev A

Verizon Wireless selects Lucent for its EV-DO Rev A
Verizon Wireless announced its plan to deploy Lucent EV-DO Revision A technology into its nationwide network. Currently, Verizon used Lucent's equipment for its EV-DO network. The upgrade will consists of software and hardware changes and will allow Verizon to introduce new services such as enhanced push-to-talk, messaging, and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). EV-DO Rev. A enables users to receive data (forward link) at speeds up to 3.1 Megabits per second (Mbps) and send data (reverse link) at speeds of up to 1.8 Mbps. For comparison, the maximum theoretical speed of the current EV-DO is 2.1 Mbps with real speeds of about 300-700 kbps.
