Verizon CEO says Samsung's bada could be dark horse in OS battle
0. phoneArena 07 Sep 2012, 12:32 posted on
Verizon Wireless CEO Lowell McAdam told a J.P. Morgan investor conference that Samsung's bada OS could be the "dark horse" winner in the OS battles; the executive said that bada could be a competitive third platform option for carriers if the OEM would put resources behind its own software...

I think with W8 & WP8 the 3rd ecosystem will be filled!

yeah, i was just on my way down to say that. Bada the third leg, heh, what a silly notion after the exposure the world has had to WP8. xD

but BlackBerry 10 is really different that might catch to people's eyes... the 4 of them are really unique on its own respective looks... iOS will be recognize because it always got its iOS look, Windows Phone Devices will be known and recognize for those live tiles, BlackBerry devices will be recognize because its really BlackBerry-ish... and android even its skinned it will still be recognize because it is still android (with the exception of kindle fires)
but i dont know if bada will have a breakthrough... coz samsung is also prepping TIZEN...but TIZEN is html5 base, i think the world still not ready for the whole web experience!! but if samsung will merge bada in tizen, i thik its a good decision.. so i want samsung to work on its own OS now...they should really prepare the tizen/bada (bazen/tida/tizba?) and dont rely on android that much!!

"The jury awarded Samsung $1.05 billion......"
You mean Apple was awarded the $1.05 billion right?

Lowell McAdam is my iDol. While I agree that there is room for a third major eco system, I don't think consumers would easily gravitate to a third platform on a large scale as has been the success of iOS and Android, respectively. Proof of this would be the on-going struggles of Microsoft's Windows Mobile and the mass exodus away from RIM's BlackBerry OS.

Of course, Lowell the Liar also said that LTE would lower prices for the consumer, so take what he says with a grain of salt.

Yeah I would much rather use WP8 than bada any day.

I would not believe a word from either Verizon or AT&T CEO's just like politicians they have to appease all manufacturer from Samsung, Apple, Google, Rim and Microsoft . They really have no idea who will be the dominate player?
1. Samsung is the worlds largest hardware manufacture but its success is really due to Google's Android Os Can't piss them off
2. Apple is the most powerful company in the US right now with a proven marketing department that can make almost anything sell with the letter "i" in it. They also have a proven product that did change the mobile landscape 5 years ago. Can't piss them off to much.
3.Google has the hottest OS that runs on multiple hardware vendors equipment including our Droid line from Motorola ( which they own by the way ) Indefinably can't piss them off.
4.Rim has all our corporate customers and they might make a comeback so lets not piss them off.
5 Microsoft is Microsoft they hold the whole business world in their hands with windows 7 and soon win8 on the surface tablet and Laptop will be the next upgrade that all business will be clamoring for and we don't want to miss being part of that can't piss them off.
What get me about Verizon is that they had a great thing going with their "Droid does" campaign and were battling AT&T and the iPhone with great success. Now that they carry everyone they can never have campaigns like that again or say anything remotely negative towards any mobile firm. so take these CEO's rhetoric with a grain of salt.

Verizon always supports Motorola so android, since motorola makes only android. Bada is gonna dead.

Sounds like a good thing, but bada isn't going to just reign in loads of users out of the blue. Bada will have to bring a lot to the table to take on the likes of the maturing(at an astonishing pace) Android OS. Funny thing in the editorial it says the lost suit to Apple might push Sammy to put more behind Bada, when it was Sammy's too similar look that got them sued in the first place, not a thing to do with Android at all.

Bada is soon dead. Tizen is the reincarnation which is due 2013. Nokias in house OS on the other hand...

S40? hahaha... globally they are still relevant... nokia is just too stupid!! and hearing rumors that they will also abandon s40 after they could market WP on low end.. but thats not gonna happen coz of WP restrictions... if WP could just use other processor other than qualcomms i think they could push it!!
if they will market symbian instead of s40 to low end market, it will surely boom!!!
symbian is very capable and very versatile... nokia belle refresh on N8... smooth!!!
i hope tizen doesnt work like mozilla's firefox OS.. i hope its not a browser OS like mozilla's... tizen might be the future but being all html5 isnt really a good thing.. but if they could merge bada to tizen and make it work like android but apps and few components are all html5 it will be a good OS.. so samsung should make the best effort of it!! hope they could slow down on android and concentrate on their own products and softwares!!
but i think ex nokian's jolla OS will be a real killer coz it is native API but with all the QT and HTML5 and everything!!!

i really like that verizon will support nokia lumia WP devices and upcoming BlackBerry devices...
hope they will boom like they did to android last 2009..
market these 2 OS on mass market but with killer specs and it will surely boom!!

I doubt Bada will ever become the third platform. For that to happen, Samsung needs to have to put a lot of their energy on it like yesterday, which would mean taking their eyes off the Android ball at this crucial time. As no. 1 Android OEM, not gonna happen. Maybe in the future but by then it would be too late. The third platform will be decided between WP8 and BB10. I put my bet on WP8.

nope, samsungs bada was themed pretty much exactly the same as Samsungs Android OS with the touchwiz skin (they even called it touchwiz UI in bada) so it wouldn't even get them around apples stupid copying accusations, thus no gain to Samsung, bada has pretty much already been abandoned by Samsung, it could only live on in some shadow of itself as part of Tizen.

Good point, many people don't realize that bada technically doesn't exist anymore, it was combined with tizen.
