The fact that youve gone through a lot of android phones is funny.

17. BattleBrat posted on 01 Dec 2011, 23:09 2

Yeah, I know, having options sucks doesn't it?
Glad my RAZR doesn't have this Carrier IQ stuff.

18. networkdood posted on 01 Dec 2011, 23:17 1

Some people do buy phones at full price - I could afford to until i started to raise a family.

19. BattleBrat posted on 01 Dec 2011, 23:41 1

I'm in the same boat, the RAZR replaced my DROID 1,I used my upgrade. I MIGHT buy the Iphone 5 off contract, but I gotta see it first. But generally, 600 for a phone? I'd usually rather spend 300-400 for an android MP3 player (Cowon D3 Plenue, Sony Walkman when they release an Android version, Samsung Galaxy mp3 player) or an Ipod Touch.

I can buy any phone I want, full price. But instead, I choose an iPhone. I can resell it and only pay maybe a $100-$200 for the next one.

Can't do that with Android.

20. The_Miz posted on 02 Dec 2011, 01:09 1 2

Yup, having options to get a phone that'll lose support in six months must be fun.

22. BattleBrat posted on 02 Dec 2011, 05:29 2

I just got an update for my droid 1, I'm afraid your argument doesn't hold water.
And options are what Android is all about.
Show me 12 Iphones, I will give you the same ugly icons arranged differently with different backgrounds, but the apps keep me coming back.
Show me 12 Android phones, and I will show you 12 completely different setups, and the apps are coming.

Keep in mind, I like apple, but I feel they need to shake it up

24. InspectorGadget80 posted on 02 Dec 2011, 07:58 1

This is NOT BOUT THE IPHONE. And the iphone too have built it software that tracks you also

Hey PhoneArena, I think you mean "1984-esque". As in the book "1984". Just sayin' ;-P

I don't think that Verizon would admit using this software, but we all know that every carrier out there does keep records of text messages and calls, and not only the number that you are texting to, but the actual text as well, and we all know that Verizon doesn't give a crap about personal information , I mean we all remember what happen few years ago with Verizon and the feds. don't we? this type of news should not be a surprise the Patriot Act killed the sense of liberty in America

6. Sniggly posted on 01 Dec 2011, 15:58 1

Seems this claim is being corroborated by users. I still think the nature of the software itself is not meant to be malicious, and I'm only annoyed that it was kept secret and mandatory.

Didn't you flip a lid with Apple tracking?

11. Sniggly posted on 01 Dec 2011, 18:15 1

Actually... not really. Except for the fact that once again, that file was secret, insecure, not deletable, served no purpose that anyone could discern, and Apple denied it at first by proxy of Steve Jobs.

So... yeah.

"In the UK, several other carriers have indicated they don’t install Carrier IQ software either, including Rogers, Telus, Bell, Virgin, and Videotran."

I would appreciate it if you get your facts correct. These carriers are in Canada, not the UK. Also, it's Videotron, not Videotran.

Furthermore, you can also include Fido on the list of Canadian carriers who claim they do not have Carrier IQ installed on their phones.

12. mctcm posted on 01 Dec 2011, 20:25 1

Who is to say all of these carriers do not have another iteration of the same application simply badged under a different brand or name? Phrase the question a little differently and I think you would see a common theme.

Q: "Do you monitor users with Carrier IQ?"
A: "No."

Q: "Do you monitor every aspect of communications from your users?"
A: "No comment."

And does it bother anyone else that tweeting has become a standard of communication? We are doomed

I had assumed for years that they have had this capability, and have been using it all along. I am not terribly surprised to hear about it, just surprised that it took this long to really come to light. I am sure there are all sorts of tracking mechanisms, both carrier-implemented and manufacturer-implemented... and probably OS-developer-implemented, too... not to mention government-implemented, that have been, are, and will be going on, which we have no clue about yet. We will not be likely to hear about the best stuff for quite some time.

Look, if you are still not sure, then get the app on TrevE\'s website:

I read that Apple blocks most of these information collection activities where android gives the carriers free reign over your private info
