If you are moving from a lowly phone to the Apple iPhone 4 on Verizon, and you have backed up your data with the carrier's Backup Assistant service, Big Red has made an app, available in the App Store, to transfer your old contacts.

The App Store is flush with backup and cloud sync software, but this one might come very handy if you have used a non-smartphone device on Verizon before.

Just upload your data to Verizon's cloud via Backup Assistant, and let VZ Contact Transfer be the pilot app you install on your shiny new iPhone 4, in order to download your contacts to Apple's finest memory. There is just one user review for now, which claims that the app works as advertised, and that's all we want from it, really.

I have had about 13 Verizon phones, and not ONE time I have been charged to have my contacts transfered. Exactly what the hell are you talking about?

Verizon has had backup assistant free for years. Plus, if you upgrade in a corporate store, they never charge you to transfer contacts.

He's right, sort-of. Stores don't charge you when you purchase a phone, but when you get a replacement phone, or a phone from a friend, its $19.99. It can be looked at as a bad thing by some people, but truthfully, you can use Backup Assistant for free, or you can have someone else do it for $19.99. It's like cleaning your house. You can do it yourself for free, or hire a maid.

What the hell? I just got buried for stating a fact...Must be some Utility Fanboys online today... Just because they haven't charged you doesn't mean it isn't a practice...

Plus, every other carrier does this for free no matter if you are buying the phone or you got it from your buddy...

I manage my family plan and managed my parents when I was on it, and when we changed phones not one of us ever paid to have it done. If you are a moron and lose your phone every month (I know people that do this), then maybe you will be charged after a while. But I still do not know anyone on Verizon that had to pay to have their contacts switched.

And you said you stated facts? Pix? Proof?

I know some friends that were charged. I think that happens if you go to a VZ store that is not one of their corporate stores.

Verizon made this official that Backup Assistant is now FREE to all customers, no matter if you are the owner or secondary lines. They only downfall is the potential data fees that you may encounter for using data, but if you have a data plan, then this is free. Hope this clears things up.

What they forgot to tell you is that you have to turn off your Wi-Fi or else the app can't validate your phone number.
