Android 2.2 has jumped from inclusion on 4.5% of Android phones in July to a 28.7% installed rate last month...

My Droid gets worse with every update. I dread to receive the Gingerbread OS.

Just be happy you get updates, plenty of first gens got shut out after 2.1, like my Moment

Shiittt my epic 4g is rockin 2.1 and I couldn't care less.

These phones have an open source OS. They are meant to be rooted it seems. Root your phone, get a custom ROM. Get a custom Froyo ROM if you really have to have the latest and greatest although there are 2.1 ROM's out there that make 2.2 a moot point. Generally, the carriers are giving you a base version and you can upgrade if you like. Think of it like this, They are giving you a Subaru Impreza and the upgrade to the STI model has negligable cost to you.
