I think MS will definitely be a major player by this time next year in the mobile space. They've finally created a cohesive ecosystem with innovative products and are really trying to win over developers. I just hope that the mobile partners are going to offer some great hardware.
With Win8, WP8 and a new Xbox in the pipeline MS are going to be hard to ignore.

Hoping to see some quality hardware especially in the mid-range level to replace Lumia 710. Gonna stick to my HTC Trophy for now and wait for what manufacturers bring to the table. Hopefully they pack bigger batteries in there also.

The Lumia 900 is a great Windows 7 series smart phone Hmm I hope Nokia makes a Windows 8 version and add a smooth finish Navy blue and smooth Silver grey Color model. the white smooth finish Nokia 900 now on sale needs new colors to the line up of the Nokia Lumia 900 with Windows 8, HD screens and Windows 8 rated dual core CPU chipsets.

if a surface that only cost lower than the iPad it will be a hit
if a WP8 can now use a bluetooth sharing it can kill android..
but WP8's enemy is iOS and Android..but it could still be a hit!
if nokia could make a 7"-8" tablet it is the real competition between the nexus 7 and the rumoured iPad mini
or just make a mini surface...

regarding hardware Nokia won't dissapoint. Lumia 800/N9 are wonderful pieces of hardware. Hardware will be probably restricted as it used to be in Microsoft phones but it has got a bright side too.
And I hope for the best that Nokia will finally make a real tablet (not talking about n770/n810 etc.)
The sad part of it is that Nokia became an ordinary manufacturer. Like everyone else.
They are just doing hardware for Microsoft.
But it's a common thing nowadays. Android is in almost every single phone. Bada didn't succeed. Tizen will probably share the same fate. MeeGo is a dead end, Elop killed Symbian (frikking bastard!), webos is dead.
Haters shut your holes.
Every single system has its infancy.
Microsoft and Nokia are working hard to provide the best end product you can get.
Given Nokia saw better days and Microsoft has its own flop with kin phones, it's too important for them to give it up.

If there is any question carrier ties mean something.. I will ppint you to the Dell Venue Pro.. the BEST windows Phone out there and sold terribly.? WHY..? ONLY sold online at Dells' website buried in the back. IF they had it at the stores.. I feel it was (and still is unique enough) it would would made a HUGE difference in WindowsPhone sales..

folks I think one of the major reasons Microsoft built it own tablet is that Microsoft does not want Ipad or Android tablets to be the dominant tablet used in the Enterprise
so Microsoft has the "Surface" Tablet computers available to sell to the Enterprise (Business) if they want them that will work all Windows desktop and Laptop and windows Server x86 Programs out there today. Microsoft OEM partners can not be
trusted to continue to make Windows tablet computers if they do not sell well. Microsoft knows the Enterprise it's main customers needs a Microsoft tablet computer to work with Microsoft software and will have "Microsoft Surface computers ready and available for them to buy and use regardless of whether it's OEM partners make windows Tablet computers or not
