Apple updated the 5.1.1 build. This renders the untethered jailbreak on A5 devices useless. You have to download a signed version of the original 5.1.1 build and restore. Then perform the jailbreak. So yes, there is a little trickery involved.

It does void your warranty but if anything happens and you need to send it back to Apple just restore it using iTunes and they'll never know.
I've personally done it loads of times with the whole Antennagate issue with the iPhone 4 and I got a new (faulty) iPhone back everytime.

It doesn't brick your device like rooting does. You can factory reset on the iPhone.

technically yes, but there is no way for apple to prove it if you backed up before jailbreaking and then restored to that back up… but just as a safety you should have a back up anyways when jailbreaking

hey - i am in similar situation. I have 5.1.0. how can i have it untethered. Should i update it to 5.1.1 by restoring and then jailbreak?
