Untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 coming in a matter of days
Last time when we had an update on pod2g's jailbreaking efforts, he optimistically stated that an untethered jailbreak for A5-based iDevices is well on its way. Now, he posted on his personal blogpost that thanks to his recent progress, and with the help of fellow hackers planetbeing and saurik, both the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 will get an untethered jailbreak in a matter of days. And he is pretty confident about it too as the “sandbox” of the iOS platform has been broken out of, which leaves pretty much no further obstacles in hackers' way.

So, there you go, folks! After months of waiting, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 are finally getting freed from their shackles... untethered. Rest assured that we will let you know as soon as the jailbreak becomes available. And by the way, those who own an older iPhone or iPad model can give it the untethered jailbreak treatment right now.

This is a little unrelated to this article but the next iPhone (in a round about way) has been confirmed to be an LTE device on BGR.

@Vamshig555

As far as I know, the jailbreak for the iPhone 4 running iOS 5 has already been released.

Recently I jail broken my iPod touch 4g on iOS 5.1 but unjailbreak it days later . Why ? Jail breaking makes my device slow and full of bugs and things keep force close . I prefer to be protected by apple's big wall

the jail break does not make the device slow. It is what you do with your jail break that messes it up. If you dont know what you are doing then dont jail break.

That's pretty funny...it is banned because I tried it and could not post until it was changed for removed.

I must have read something wrong in the past because I thought the 4S already had an untethered JB but must have been tethered or for the 4 instead. Give it two days and Apple will release an update that blocks whatever exploit they are using...which is the #1 reason I gave up on Apple products. I own it and should be able to do whatever in the hell I want with it and they can void my warranty if they want but the jailbreak cat and mouse game got old real quick. An iPhone only becomes a great device once it has been set free.

@ vamshigg555

Jailbreak and unlock are two different things. One letting you install 3rd party apps, tweaks, themes etc and the other giving you the ability to use the phone with whatever sim you pop in.
