Untethered iOS 5 jailbreak demonstrated on video, coming soon to your device
The Chronic Dev Team is close to finally releasing an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 5 and it will be the world’s first, if it works. French iOS hacker pod2g just posted a video of what looks an almost finished version of the jailbreak tool. Up until now, iOS 5 has only allowed for a tethered jailbreak and the benefit of having an untethered solution for your iOS device is that you don’t need to have your gadget connected to a computer for each reboot.

“Hey jailbreaking friends, I’ve found a bug that can untether iOS 5. Don’t expect a release soon, but I’m gonna work hard in it,” pod2g tweeted a month ago.

The hacker hasn’t yet tested the solution with the latest iPhone 4S and iPad 2 as he doesn’t own the devices, but promises to test them once everything else is finished. All of the unanswered questions around this come also a bit too early. Luckily, we now know that the untethered jailbreak is possible - all we have to do is wait for a tool for the common man to get released.

tacohunter that was for The_Miz, if you read any of his posts you will see that he thinks the iPhone is more secure than Fort Knox.

So thank you for being cute!

I dunno...seeing as the iPhone has been jailbreakable for some time now, I don't know how anyone can say that it's unexploitable. At the same time, you can't download a harmful app from the App Store.

As for Jailbreaking iOS5...honestly Apple added almost every feature I jailbroke my iPhone for. The only thing missing is my free tethering app and the app that tricks the phone into thinking it's always on wifi...Stupid AT&T...

I'm not trying to be a troll or anything because the iPhone is clearly a great device in its own way but honestly, in my opinion, a Rooted android phone with a good rom (cm7/9) will always be better then a jailbroken iPhone. I mean you're jailbreaking it to get the customization that many android users are accustomed to. To me iPhone are for people who just want a phone that works, and works all the time without hickups, but I'll never understand why people who like to hack don't just get androids. But hey, to each their own!

Either way, this is cool.

Dude, don't worry about it. I jailbreak because I want free tethering and apps. I'm pretty sure that falls under the category of hacking.

Nice to know that you do it for piracy.

In other news, jailbreaking sounds like it adds a lot of features that Apple leaves out (home screen widgets/toggles, anyone?)

Yes it is good to know. Its also great to know how Android is so free and open and how you can download free music and have it right on your phone without using music purchasing software like iTunes. It goes both ways. I'm not saying that you personally do it though, but that's a major reason why Android users don't like the iTunes store.

And jailbreaking sounds TO YOU a lot like widgets/toggles. Cusotmization is only cute for so long. And even if jail breaking was all about home screen and widgets (which its not) what would be the problem? Is it really that hard to fathom that people don't want Android devices, anyone?
