A variant of the phone, the Sony Xperia Z1s, is available from T-Mobile with some changes (more on that below). I wonder how much they need to clear out before they release the Z2...

They can discontinue it, just like what they did with the Z. But for the Z1, it's not the time yet, because some people think that paying so much money for the Z2 isn't worth it when there's the Z1 with similar specs (just a tad bit lower) but still has a decent processor, same camera, and same beautiful design.
But when the Z3 comes out, the Z1 will be discontinued. Same thing will be repeated when a flagship comes out.

why did america didnt get LTE version unlocked ? Canada got it right at the beginning in October. :/
Canada got the c6906 version which has all canada LTEs and 3G and AWS so it worked great here. i dont know what the heck is going on in america.

At one point in time Sony was going to ignore America, probably had something to do with you morons giving Apple 1 billion and buying nothing except iPhones.
Sony has now changed their stance, not sure why but if what the Sony president says is true. The Z2 won't be released that late this time.
However, Bell does have the Z2 as an exclusive in Canada. Which actually worked for Samsung since the international GS2 was a Bell exclusive as well.
So Sony might still be ignoring the Americas and their president just lied about strongly going after the North American market.
I don't blame them for pulling out though. HTC is slowly dying but for a good reason. And the Sony brand is so mediocre here now that even the VAIO brand is no longer profitable.
Normally HTC and Sony can fix their problems like having oversized phones that are huge just to include features that most common people don't want but with Apple suing you for anything touch screen related, even if you make it here, you have to use what profits you have to pay Apple and Nokia.
So you might as well just screw North America until Apple becomes the next Blackberry. Then attack. The rest of the world is populated enough.

i think the blame should go to carriers just as much as to Sony for this screw up. everyone else in world got Z1 back in October besides America.

Sony you will never learn! why on earth you are releasing Z1 now instead of Z2? When S5 ANHTC1 has already started to reaching its customers you are doing this? It seems US sees Z2 next year. What a dumb move by Sony!

But it hasn't been a year yet and why would they release the Z2,,,?
That would really piss of there fans and buyers.

Na. Same applies to Z1 also, even with two flagships in a year Sony cant catch up, always late in US.

Z1S at t-mobile is $552 now.
who would want to pay 619 for z1 at this point?
that really is not a smart move.

This phone isn't a T-Mobile version. This phone will actually work with AT&T. Would you want to buy a phone that said T-Mobile on the back and use it with another carrier? Plus, I believe the firmware on the Z1S is customized for T-Mobile as well.
