Undetectable, root-free tethering possible on Android with ClockworkMod Tether

0. phoneArena posted on 02 Jan 2012, 13:10

Many people love the idea of being able to use their smartphone as a mobile access point, but don’t like the hefty monthly charges carriers impose in order to access this feature. It is particularly hard to justify when you are already paying a fee for data access. While, those who root their devices have other options available to get around this caveat, people who want to fly the straight and narrow with stock Android devices have been forced to either accept additional monthly charges or forgo this option altogether.

Cheap bast(bleep). If you want the service, pony up and pay for it and stop using so much cellular bandwidth. No wonder cell service rates are high - ridiculous Android phones and their free tethering opportunities. Stuff that causes bandwidth usage to spike.

When i am paying for all the data that i consume why should i pay extra for how i access the data?

The_Miz is correct for being upset. It sucks when your network is slow, but I would not blame everyone who wants to tether their CPU to their mobile data plan, because most of us just want to do simple web browsing and or answer email from our laptop without having to pay for the equivalent of an extra data plan for that convenience.
However, I would blame the millions of people watching/downloading movies, but then again they are just utilizing the amount of data(capped) that they already paid for in advance and your carrier knows that it over promised you and all of their other customers! So, the carriers need to figure it out and in the mean time what does it really matter if its on their phone or CPU, people will do it either-way and even if they can't tether, they will just stream the video/multimedia to their TV/entertainment system...

With that said, I have one question for you. Were you the guy who cheered on the Carrier's when they started capping unlimited data or the guy who said for $1500+ a year, my phone should do a much more, than unlimited texts, minutes, data on a 3-4inch screen?

For the record! I don't agree your data plan should allow you to share your data with 8 other devices at once for free. Yes, you should pony up and pay for that type of widespread usage/sharing.

*****In my opinion the first carrier to offer free WIFI tethering, to your personal CPU and Tablet will probably sweep the market for business accounts and students who want to work on the go.

I've been using Easy Tether Pro to do free USB tethering for over a year now, root free...

Do you guys think that AT&T knows when you;re tethering due to Carrier IQ or similar software?

7. VinCrel posted on 02 Jan 2012, 18:16

Carrier IQ is just as software that will send the carrier the ip addresses that phone will request and have acknowledged, coming from one port number, Carrier IQ is not a factor.. it will just see it as a lot of pingings and requests(possibly from multiple tabs from a browser) and not tethering..

I've been using Easy Tether for over a year and it works just fine. I downloaded the free app, and paid $10 for the license, which is a lifetime license, unlike PDAnet which is like $35. Sprint did recently block the app from being installed from the market, but that doesn't stop the ability to download it off the internet and install it. I just wish that there was a root-free, charge free WiFi tether.
