The Acer Iconia W3 tablet brought Windows 8 to an 8 inch slate for the first time; the tablet was first discovered earlier this year and launched during the summer. While it has yet to be announced, a video of a tablet called the Acer Iconia W4 820 has been spotted. According to a published report, improvements with the new model are seen with the IPS LCD display and with the silicon inside the slab...

The W3 was/is discontinued. Staples put them on clearance recently to get rid of them....to likely make way for this replacement model.

Really hoping the resolution goes up. Biggest single disappointment about the W3.

The chipset. Dual core Saltwell and old PowerVR graphics bumped up to quad core Silvermont and Intel's Ivy Bridge Gen 7 graphics; overall it should be about 3 times faster than the previous generation chip (like in the Iconia W3) and be much more power efficient, according to Intel.

Also the screen now is IPS, not that piece of sh*t used in the W3.

I hear better windows 8.1-- 8 inch tablets are coming to the market place. HP, Dell and Lenovo are putting them out I guess when Windows 8.1 debuts in about 3 weeks. this one is has very limited use because it has such low maim memory storage . you can use it for internet based
Entertainment. E-Book reading, reading your Email, playing games, surfing the Web for info or shopping and buying things on the web. they say Microsoft will give all small Windows 8.1 tablets free Office Home/Student with "Outlook". If this is so you can make, read and Edit Microsoft Office document on it when it's side in the landscape postion. a person really needs at least a 10.1 inch 16 by 9 tablet to do any Business work on. I want a Windows 8.1 tablet with at least 64 gigs of main storage memory and a 32 gig SDHC card to store non essential stuff on.

I thought this was going to have a tegra 4 cpu. Back in july I found an acer iconia tablet that had a tegra 4, 2gb sdram, 64gb hdd and 8.1 wxga none glare lcd. Well thats what sticker said on it I didnt get a change to try it since it would just error on boot. I just ended up returning it to the guy who lost it.

Soon about to be 2014 and they still release new tablets with the horrible 1200 x 800 resolution? Im glad that at least Samsung is waking up and finally offers high-end specs with the new Note 10.1 (2560 x 1600 res, 3gb ram and snapdragon 800, wow!)

The video is short, but it's enough to understand the problems of windows 8 on tablets: first of all, it's slow. Every time he changes the tablet's orientation, there's a big lag. Next, and perhaps most important, as soon as you leave the touch interface you have the good old windows UI, which is simply unusable on a touch screen: notice how many times he has to try to make even a simple operation like closing a couple of windows!
