UPDATED:Verizon to offer official BlackBerry Storm 9530 OS upgrade this Sunday?
After months of waiting, owners of the BlackBerry Storm 9530 will finally be offered an upgrade to OS 4.7.0.148 by Verizon. Starting this Sunday at noon pacific time, the upgraded software will be made available through the BlackBerry support site. For those who would rather not get involved with another web site, Big Red will roll out an OTA download starting at 7pm Pacific time on Sunday. To receive the OTA download on your 9530 Storm, go to Options>Advanced Options>Wireless Updates.

The new OS will allow users to use a full QWERTY keyboard in portrait mode, update the cut and past function to make it easier to use, speed up the camera and browser, add a green "Go" button to the keyboard when in browser mode, and fix numerous bugs that caused the phone to reboot by itself, or freeze. Other bugs that made the accelerometer lag are also expected to be taken care of. The previous official firmware update from Verizon was version 4.7.0.75

Those who had downloaded previously leaked versions of the BlackBerry OS have said that the higher numbered builds made the Storm seem like a whole different phone. If you are an owner of the BlackBerry Storm 9530, let us know if you are able to upgrade your OS this weekend, and if you do, let us know what changes you like or dislike.

*UPDATE*
BGR was able to get a copy of the change log that describes all the fixes that will be made to the Storm with the firmware upgrade. Note that the entire list comprises 4 pages of small type printed with no space between lines. In other words, this obviously is a major repair job for the device. at least it took less than a year to get the phone to work the way it was supposed to work in the first place...... I still think the storm is garbage... you shouldn't have to hack your phone to get it working correctly. good news for any newcomers to the storm though, the storm 2 coming out should drop the price of the first model that works finally.

It appears that Mr. Plating had kept his word from the video I saw...by a few hours, but none the less. Impressive indeed...
