I am debating on glyde v dare. Dare = better camera Glyde = sliding keyboard, available sooner If any VZ people know the answers to these Q's Which is smaller when closed? Which has louder speaker phone? Will both have the voyager's full HTML browser, or is the Dare a smart phone that requires a special data plan? Do both have the same touch screen tech? Do either have mobile TV? People are saying they don't, but it that true?

Not sure about the size of the Dare, but close to the Prada. The Dare has an HTML browsers (like the Voyager and Glyde) but is not a smartphone, so doesn't need a data plan. Glyde is capacitive-sensitive, the Dare is pressure-sensitive. Neither one has Mobile TV, only the Voyager.

i saw intial specs that this was going to have a 3mm headphone jack, and now i see things that say 2.5mm? anyone know for sure what it is?

It's 2.5mm. There were never any internal specs that said 3.5. What you saw was either wrong or fake.

my samsung rep came into our store maybe a month ago with a working model and it did indeed have a 3.0mm headset jack, and i remember having a conversation about it with him, because he was using his ipod headphones. why does verizon still put the stupid 2.5mm headphone jacks in this bluetooth era. if verizon wanted to see higher sales with vcast and actual users using their phone as an mp3 player, they would release their phones with 3mm jacks

There is no such thing as a 3.0 mm headset jack. They only come in 2.5 mm and 3.5 mm, the Glyde having a 2.5 mm. And it's not VZW that puts 2.5 mm jacks in their phones, it's the manufacturers, and that's true regardless of carrier or manufacturer for the most part (with a few exceptions of course).

Actually the phone does not show up in our internal info manager system. We have the curve in info manager and that launches the 12 of May so I really doubt the glyde will be released before that date.... A couple gripes on other comments someone said that our phones arent the best? Who has better we have all the great PDA's that other providers have and we have the voyager soon the glyde and the dare I think thats a great lineup personally! Oh and we were voted the number 1 carrier for the third year in a row and ranked 1st in 12 out of 19 categories and ranked number 2 in the other 7 thats a consumer reports poll!

Got this phone in at work. I personally think it's way better than the Voyager. Music features have been enhanced, Way better sound and Volume/Clarity over Voyager, Smaller device with same size screen. Touch screen is way more responsive and easier to use/touch. Main points if you hate reading: -When you send out a text message, you can now choose the font, size, alignment, color, background color... etc. -Touch screen is huge improvement over voyager. -Ringtones aren't super loud but decent in loud environment. Music and Music Ringtones are extremely loud and crystal clear. I'd say 30-40% improvement over voyager. -Device is pretty small considering the size with an easier to use keypad with an actual spacebar in the middle like a keyboard should have. -2.0MP Camera does have a Flash and is decently bright in dark/dim close picture taking environments. (Pictures look better in the slightest on screen compared to Voyager) Pictures look almost identical if not identical when transfered to an micro SD and put on the computer (we tried this at work). -Hard to tell from pictures, but the edge size with the keyboard is slightly slanted/curved to make it easier to push open the keyboard. (you'll see what I mean when you put the phone in your hands) -The blue shell is actually darker than the pictures make it out to look on phone arena website, but not as dark as the JUKE or LG Chocolate 8550-Blue Mint. -Speakerphone can be used with the device closed and can be activated quickly from the main front screen. -There is now an option to change the color of the Time/Date display to black or white. Example: If you have a white background or image you can change it to black to see it clearly or vice versa depending on your wallpaper. This is all I've noticed so far.... I only was able to play with it for like 11-12min and was testing everything I could. I'll come back here if there's something I forgot to post or forgot to mention or check. It get's released on May 9th. All corporate stores should be getting shipments between May 1st, and May 9th. All channels can sell on May 9th. For those who said they ordered one are BS'ing everyone. Its automatically is pricing in the system if you sell it at $999999.99 until 12:01am EST May 9th. (9:01pm, May 8th for PST) Then it will be $419.99 Full Retail or $249.99 with 2yr and $50Mail in Rebate. $149.99-199.99 Depending on your NE2 with $50 mail in rebate.

I don't know what customer service is doing different than stores then to get it ordered. Either that or it's not shipping till a couple days before so you get it on the Day of it's launch maybe? I'm also confused that how they are getting past they system when it is wrung up and it populates the $999999.99 price tag? People have video's of it because most stores already have there live demo's and stock already. I received 40 at my location. It's not rocket science. I've submitted pictures and have give phone arena information several tips and info that people have drooled over on this site. I'm curious to see if people can post a picture of themselves with an ACTIVATED Samsung U940/Glyde prior to the launch date. I bet you there will be few and far between if non at all. I can't even activate my store demo in the system as of May 1st when we got them as now I'll have to try again when I go back on Sunday.

with this phone, you need a nation wide plan? why?
66. VZWREP (unregistered) posted on 04 May 2008, 16:17 0 0
to support the web browser... the nationwide plans charge for the data sent and received. 1.99 per mb. the older plans used airtime. if you get vcast (15.00 mo) you get unlimted web browsing on the glyde and the voyager

Random question but....does this phone have personalized ringtones for both phone calls and text messages?
71. futureglydeowner (unregistered) posted on 05 May 2008, 00:45 0 0
one main question i have is how bulky this phone is. i saw a picture and it seemed relatively similar insize to the lg chocolate, i'm just not a fan of real big bulky phones. for anyone thats gotten a hold on one of these before release, have you tried slipping it in your pocket? is it really buldgy or does it fit relatively comfortably?

having touched the Glyde in person from a buddy that works for the tech side at VZ, I can say the touch screen is far more intuitive than the Voyagers. Thumbing through pages no longer accidently selects like on the Voyager. The Glyde seems to know the difference between a thumb swipe, and a thumb select. :) Plus its smaller, screen is just as big, sweet keyboard and OS....Croix-style is very nice!! The chassis felt VERY sturdy. Samsung has come a long way since my old A310 days!!! Women with nails may not like it since the keyboard does slide kinda close to the phone, so pressing the qwerty keys will be more of a challenge than on the Voyager! But overall, I'm loving it!! May FINALLY replace my LG V with this, lol!

Yo i was wondering how well the glyde is at multi-tasking because the big downfall about the voyager is that it cant.....not really. I have the chocolate and i like being able to listen to my music and being able to text at the same time. I wanted to kno if the glyde can do the same?

I'm very excited about this phone. I have the Voyager, and am actually on my SEVENTH replacement and Verizon told me I could call on the 9th and order a Glyde and switch the phone at no cost (because I paid full retail for the Voyager). Makes me happy..... I can't stand the Voyager >:^\
