Called VZW. They CONFIRMED. The new phone WILL REQUIRE a calling plan change. In my case I have the 700 Min NW FS base $69.99. Price difference between that and the connect? $50. $50 MORE than current with NW Basic with Vpak and $10 unlimited IN TXT. I'M NOT getting this phone. I can SAVE if I get the Omnia (1) and get the $29.99 data plan in place of the Vpak. $ 15 difference. I just hope CURRENT phones sold NOW and after the change over will still beable to get the VPAK.

Ok, everyone is over thinking this bigtime... VZW has created a new device class: the “Enhanced Multimedia Phone”. To fall into this new category, a handset must have an HTML Web browser, EV-DO Rev. A, a QWERTY keypad and it must launch on or after September 8th; making the Samsung Rogue VZW’s first handset to meet the criteria. Any current handset that is available today will not be forced into a data plan, but it will still be recommended to get one. Vcast is killing VZW's margin right now since everyone and their mother has figured out that if you teather the device to your laptop, you can make a 'Vcast Data Call' and use DUN... The service that VZW charges $60 a month for is 'free' to sly Vcast users. By putting such a low limit on things (although the connect and premium plans are still unlimited) they are padding their margin on data services. Now you say you are on the base family plan... $69.99 for 2 lines plus $10.00 for unlimited in texting plus $15 for Vcast... That makes your bill $84.99 a month. If your texting is split across the 2 lines ($5 per line for the 250 out of net/unlimited in) then you are probably not texting too many out of network people. If you get notifications from somewhere like Facebook, Twitter, Myspace or other social site, 250 messages go way too quickly. Other premium services like MSN's sports scores, Weather updates and such also eat away at the 250 message base. For alot of people, that $120 jump to the connect plan makes alot of sense - especially if you have kids that text all their friends regardless of the network they are on... The $120 also includes the unlimited data on both lines - so that's a bonus (even my wife uses hers now!) So basically, right now you are paying $85 a monthand VZW wants you to 'upgrade' to $120... Not the $50 you were talking above, but still a chunky $35... But for that you never have to worry about texting out of network (on either line) or running over on data (on either line)... And if you really wanted to pinch pennies, just get your primary line on the 'connect plan' and leave the secondary as a $10 add on with no frills on it... They can do that for you easy... :) Hope that made sense since this just turned into a novel...
