U.K. data shows that iPhone users prefer Apple Maps to Google Maps, even with Waze

Earlier this month, we showed you data that supported the idea that in the U.S., iPhone users prefer Apple Maps over Google Maps. Over the last year, the number of iPhone users in the states supporting Google Maps has dropped from 35 million to 6 million. And 2 million of those were using iOS 5 or an older iOS build, which had Google Maps as the default navigation app...

less likely that they consciously "prefer" it and more likely they go with whatever the unchangeable system default mapping app is on iphones, which just happens to be apple maps.

Yes, but it's Alan writting, what did you expected? Fairness in the headline?

Well we already discussed this issue on his last article, but someone has to try and make Apple look good. Essentially though, the OS is designed for the "simple" folks who wouldn't know one mapping app from another. In the end, how often can one manually switch to their own favored app when it keeps going to the default one. Not that Apple hasn't fixed their maps quite a bit, but to call this a feat of preference is pure comedy. In that way I believe all of North Korea prefers the Kim dynasty. It doesn't matter if there is a gun pointed to their head, the fact that they are still in power tells us they prefer him.

"Less likely" why don't you run your own poll, instead of complaining about This one.

Come back, when Apple Maps shows my house accurately on the map like Google does. I don't care if apple has turn by turn whatever...its no use if it can't even get me home. :(

Do they have an option to set other map apps as DEFAULT? Well, there's your answer :S

Helloo, check out the number of people having iOS 5 or an older iOS build. Many websites report that iOS 6 had 92 - 93% of adoption on iphones prior to Apple releasing iOS 7. So... there !!

They (Google) broke their promise in the first place by denying turn by turn navigation...

Apple maps has matured greatly since its inception. It's no longer problematic, like it was.
I removed google maps after working with, and seeing the vast improvements apple had mad to maps. It was no longer needed, freed up a lotta storage. Overall google maps is still probably the best though.

I suspect another factor is that Google substantially downgraded Maps functionality this summer. Many Android users are complaining of useful features being stripped off from Maps, to the point that Google Maps is no longer as good as a number of its competitors.

This is correct... I no longer have a Ruler, Latitud, there is no terrain view... and I can't Mark a Place if there is no reference nearby (I.E. a self made camp in the middle of a desert, so you cant get directions, not even walking)...
I really miss the old version.

I was using Waze since the beginning of the year. I decide to give Google Maps a try to see what it's like after all this time. I hated it. I was going to try it out for a week, but switched back to Waze after a day.

Alan, you wrote an iphone article without using the word "iconic." I expect an update is coming.

Apple maps if the default applications. simple as that.
what a misleading title.

Not being able to set Google Maps or Waze as the default navigation application does not mean that iPhone users prefer Apple Maps.

I'm staying to GMaps 6. NEVER EVER going to 7, as GMaps V.7 is a STRIPPED DOWN of the previous version even it had tbt navigation. I just needed to mark every places i've been even it in the middle of nowhere even in the middle of unknown sea, so i can share where i lost regardless where i am.
Fvck with v7 GMaps. For iMaps, congratulations, it is no more iMessapps again.
