Two new areas to get AT&T's LTE service
0. phoneArena 15 Feb 2012, 17:18 posted on
Tampa, Florida and Raleigh North Carolina are the newest cities to be receiving AT&T's new 4G LTE service; the lightening fast cellular coverage extends to Manatee, Fl and Durham, NC providing speeds as much as ten times faster than 3G...

28 markets in how long? *googles* 7 months? that's pathetic. Verizon LAUNCHED with 39 markets.

Who the hell downvoted you for speaking the truth

right? it is a stinging truth though. some people just can't handle it.

Who cares who launched with what? Once coverage is maxed they'll both cover pretty much everyone. It's not like they country's land mass will get bigger. Geez chill out for cryin out loud.

but who's subscribers will get to enjoy that the longest I wonder?

That is true. I wish they did roll out a later faster.

I just want to know when they will LTE up Philly
5. kcombs (Posts: 275; Member since: 15 Dec 2010)
at&t is taking time to roll out LTE, so they don't end up like Verizon and have a crap ton of issues..
8. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
yeah, I can't even tell you how bad I have it on Verizon's LTE network. it's almost unusable. :P
13. kcombs (Posts: 275; Member since: 15 Dec 2010)
let's see.. how many blackouts have they had?
14. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
3 lasting a couple of days at the longest so let's see...6-7 days out of 432 days of no 4G (due to growing pains of course) in exchange for close to 10 times the coverage..hmm...I think I'll live.
26. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
does it matter? they're only maintaining an LTE network 1/10 the size of Verizon's LTE network. AT&T isn't growing anywhere near as aggressively and Verizon was the first major carrier to use an LTE network so complications were sure to arise.
2. devon613 (Posts: 114; Member since: 13 Oct 2011)
keep it coming !!!! Its fast here in phoenix...thats all i care about ...
6. christianqwerty (Posts: 467; Member since: 05 May 2011)
At&t may be slow to roll out LTE, only because they are also rolling out 4g to be used when LTE isn't available. i have 4g here in my town, but not LTE yet, but im fine with the 5-7 mbps ^^
9. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
Verizon focused entirely on LTE and now look at them. they've practically lapped the other carriers.
22. biophone (Posts: 1956; Member since: 15 Jun 2011)
So they have two not so great 4g networks. I would rather have 1 really good one.
42. Forsaken77 (Posts: 553; Member since: 09 Jun 2011)
Your comment, biophone, is complete bs. They have 2 4G networks that are BETTER than Verizons' network. On HSPA+ I get faster or comparable speeds than most of my friends with Verizon. With 3 bars I get an average of 11mbps, up to 33mbps, on HSPA+!!! My Verizon cronies get 6-7mbps on average. We use mobilespeedtest.com. Many places already state that AT&T's LTE smokes Verizons'. So how is that 2 bad 4G networks when I get faster speeds than Verizon on the weeker of the 2 4G networks? Verizon threw their LTE network up in a hurry and most likely cut alot of corners in doing so. Alot of you people are so anti-AT&T and are so completely ignorant of how their network performs. AT&T has greatly stepped up their game in the last few years. That's why their network is better optimized (quality over quantity) and they get most, not all, of the high-end phones first or exclusively.

LTE is way overhyped. Who cares if AT&T is taking longer than Verizon did to roll out their LTE? They're not in a rush because their 3G network is already fast. Verizon was more in a hurry because their CDMA network lags when compared to AT&T's HSPA+
12. squallz506 (banned) (Posts: 1075; Member since: 19 Oct 2011)
I dunno about over hyped but LTE is definitely over advertised. I'm totally content on T-Mobiles hsdpa+, in my market it is almost as fast as Verizon's LTE but without the huge battery drain.
16. Volcomguy51 (Posts: 18; Member since: 23 Jan 2011)
Explain to me, what is so different from HSPA+ than LTE? Assistance please.
17. omarc26 (Posts: 360; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
well i dont have verizon my friend does and let me tell u we live in LA which has both at&t LTE and verizon LTE and i had less problems with LTE Data on my skyrocket than my friend has had on his droid razr on verizon. When verizon LTE has gone down which it has a few times his phone drops down to slooow Evdo revA. Me i dont care if at&t dont have lots of LTE coverage because like the guy above me said im fine with 5-7 mbps on at&ts 3G something u cant get on verizon 3G. Besides 5-7 mbps is fine for me to watch porn videos, facebook, email etc so yea yes LTE is nice but call me old fashioned im good with my 5-7 mbps on at&ts 3G.
18. codymws (Posts: 237; Member since: 17 Jun 2010)
Coverage and speed on every network all depend on the location. Where I live, Verizon's LTE covers the whole city, and I normally get around 30 Mbps. But I'm sure there are some locations where AT&T have better speed/coverage.
Stop arguing, people.

What I wanna know is, where did all of these fans of ATT come from? Verizon's network is substantially better and now with the ATT-Tmo failed merger, their prices are going to go up again to pay for all of their legal stuff. Verizon's money goes to improving the network.
24. kcombs (Posts: 275; Member since: 15 Dec 2010)
and Verizon also gets money from it's parent company Vodafone..
27. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
at least Verizon knows how to use Money. how much did AT&T lose over trying to create a GSM monopoly in the states?
28. kcombs (Posts: 275; Member since: 15 Dec 2010)
they still have 20B for network upgrades every year.
29. devon613 (Posts: 114; Member since: 13 Oct 2011)
verizon dont have as much money as u think lol...they borrow money as for att doesnt....
33. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i don't know why you guys seem to think that matters. the results speak for themselves. xD
35. kcombs (Posts: 275; Member since: 15 Dec 2010)
it matters to me as an American, at&t is getting all it's money from customers paying for service in the US. unlike Verizon who is backed by Vodafone, and is getting money from Europe. I don't have beef with Verizon rolling out LTE faster then at&t, I've got beef with them behind everyones back buying up spectrum from other smaller carriers. and carriers that have needs for spectrum like Sprint, T-mobile, and at&t are getting screwed. all of this using money from Europe. in this economy I prefer to support a company that gets it money from people in the US.
36. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
if you want to play loyal American citizen and pretend that Verizon isn't the largest US carrier then that's fine by me. I'll just sit back and enjoy LTE being provided to me all by Vodaphone's money apparently. xD

Ok the big debate offer networks again. the thing is this AT&T 3g is as fast as VZW 4g and our 4g is as fast as VZW LTE service. And our LTE is service blows VZW outta the water. True AT&T does not have LTE fully out like VZW does but with our 4g as fast as their LTE does it really matter anyway? And also the chart below states that if the market with LTE you can only get 4g in the airports there. So if you drop out of LTE you go straight to 3g. Where as with AT&T you go from LTE to 4g no matter what.
34. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
AT&T 3G is pretty fast being at the GSM standard but it's not as reliable and it doesn't cover as much as Verizon's 3G. AT&T's LTE potential isn't any more than Verizon's. there's more people on Verizon's LTE network and that congestion effects places like New York just like it's going to do for AT&T's LTE network when they get more people using their LTE pipelines. i never get below 10mbps here in Orlando, FL with Verizon's LTE and i rarely go below 15mbps. tell that to the majority of AT&T's subscribers that aren't able to use LTE and at AT&T's rate of progression probably won't be able to for a long while.

FINE WE GET IT U LOVE VERIZON GESH GET OVER URSELF XD LOLZ i guess u havent had at&t in 2012 it improved A LOT i admit in 08'09'2010 it was crap horrible . Only reason i went back with them was because they offer better roaming agreements yes verizon offers phones that are GSM Capable like iphone 4S etc but have u tried using it in europe?? i have i took a verizon iphone which is gsm capable and and at&t iphone ti spain, london and portugal with the verizon iphone it was a MESS such a horrible effed up experience it switched to Gsm Mode automatically but dam its such a hott mess lol data doesnt work half of the time i had many problems with dialing , making calls data was not working it didnt connect even tho the phone displayed a 3G icon for some unknown reason data was just not there yes i activated international roaming on it. were as with the at&t iphone everything was working smooth data worked fine, calls just like if i was back home in LA it was roaming on the same carrier the verizon iphone was roaming and it also had a 3G icon only difference EVERYTHING else worked fine..and besides at&t is not bad in the tge US i had zero dropped calls and data is fast 5-10 mbps on my skyrocket on 3G i said skyrocket cuz i got rid of my iphone .. on 4G LTE i get 30-50 mbps .
38. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
of course I do but that's not really what these people should be getting out of what I'm saying. I'm not saying having AT&T doesn't have it's advantages but having good 4G coverage isn't one of them.
39. omarc26 (Posts: 360; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
yes at&t doesnt have good 4G LTE coverage u got that right . But like me and MANY others on here have said we dont really care about at&t not having 4G LTE in a lot of places because its 3G coverage which they have much more of its its fast its on the 5-10 mbps range on an usual day once i hit 13 well more than once more like 5 times . Regular speeds vary from 5,10,15 on 3G hspa+ when you are getting speeds like that theres no need for LTE because with 10 mbps HD videos , fb, emails loads instantly i guess u wouldnt know thats capable on 3G because your verizon 3G doesnt offer that only there 4G Lte network offers that. Were as on at&t u can do stuff like watch HD videos without them stopping once on both 3G and 4G and lots of people are happy with that. i tried seeing an HD video on my friends droid razr on 3G it was horrible it had to rebuffer every 10 seconds and kept stopping till i gave up on it when he had 4G then the same video loaded really fast . So yes i think everyone chooses whatever works for them me at&t works for me verizon works for u . If verizon worked for me then i would have them im not gonna lie but im happy with at&t.
40. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
I'm well aware of your HSPA+ fall back but what I was originally talking about is rate of progression. if the difference between Verizon and AT&T's network growth is any indication Verizon will prove that with aggressive growth a fall back won't be necessary and all of Verizon's subscribers will have access to the fastest data speeds you can possibly get now while AT&T might get to where Verizon is NOW by the time Verizon gets nearly the whole nation covered. dividing your resources isn't the best course of action. look at it like 2 cooks competing to make the best cakes. one chef makes a small delicious cake that barely anyone can enjoy and another slightly bigger cake that's okay but not so great while the other makes a single much larger & delicious cake that everybody can enjoy. who would win? I was just using my Razr to watch stuff on Hulu Plus in HQ while I was riding from Apopka to Winter Park today. 20 miles, LTE the whole way. then
41. omarc26 (Posts: 360; Member since: 05 Dec 2009)
i agree with everything u said and your lucky u have a droid razr i want one o_O ever since verizon announced it i fell in luv with it. I think im going to have to make the switch to verizon this saturday and get me a droid razr maxx and unlock my at&t samsung skyrocket once its canceled for use over seas because like i said thats the only reason im with at&t. yay verizon here i come haha gonna get me a droid razr :P
43. Forsaken77 (Posts: 553; Member since: 09 Jun 2011)
KingKurogii you talk out your ass. Bottom line. Your on whatever carrier your parents pay for. If they paid for Sprint, you'd be arguing that Sprints wimax is the best coverage on the planet.
44. KingKurogiii (Posts: 5711; Member since: 23 Oct 2011)
i don't make any biased points on anything. if i were on Sprint i'd wish i was on Verizon. the reason why my parents use Verizon is because they travel all over the country and they need the most reliable service they can get which is Verizon. whatever your experience is with HSPA+ it's not consistent with everyone else's experiences. if you think your experience holds so much weight why is it so widely believed that LTE is the superior network technology? when AT&T gets anywhere near the traffic on their LTE Network that's on Verizon's LTE network they'll be right on par.
