Nokia is good at build quality.
Samsung is good at specs & price factor.

I dont think samsung will give Nokia to grab the NO 1 position so easily.

That's probably because people don't like the truth or because you haven't actually owned any of the three items you've mentioned and just have a general dislike of Samsung. I can tell you straight up I fanatically loathe Nokia and Elop to the grave.

Thats funny because I swear by Samsung Electronics...I started long ago with the original Windows Samsung Omnia on Vzw and now sport a GNex. Had my Omnia until I got my GNex this past December. I've never had any issues with my TV, bluray home theater system, mobile phones or appliances. I find that if you take care of them, they take care of you

Stiff competition all right if you're ATT's pet. Ain't switching carriers just for a Nokia. Want my business, you come to me. I can settle for a GS3 or odyssey. And if god willing, an HD8. I realize playing the running around game is just being a fool. If your carrier gives you great service, stick with it.

I believe due to people choosing, liking high-end specs and feautres,
which Nokia was never good at.

Not true. Nokia dont even have a dual-core phone!
Nokia dont even support Flash 10 or eleven. I had a N8, and it was slow and laggy. Web browsing a night-mare yes the build quality is above standard!
The 8800 were the best build Nokia, and no 1 can, and will ever defeat that.

Uh, Nokia was making some of the best phones in the world, even before Samsung was a "household name". They still know how to make a quality handset, but have been stymied with software, to a point: recent examples would be the 808 PureView and N8 are good examples of good phones (4" AMOLED screen, quick processor, awesome camera, wonderful reception and call quality, something Samsung still doesn't have down pat) that would have been great phones with an improved OS. The E7 was similar, but more business-minded. N9, good phone, just stillborn with what could have been (and may well be) a definitive next-gen OS. Likewise, the entire Lumia series are well-balanced phones with honest price points, with a capable but undeveloped OS and a pleasant UX and UI. While not competitive head to head with the likes of a GS3, they do fine for what they are. Lastly: Vertu. Yes, it's sold now, but the only way Samsungs or even iPhones were sold for even near that much was if they were covered in precious gems and metal, but even then they were just the same phone, with no special perks like the Vertu program.

they wont have a choice... they will power its phone with latest hardware since they dont use there own OS now... thats what they get on using others OS.. so nokia will still make the best WP8

samsung=android
nokia=WP8

and i think samsung might be super expensive if apple will going to force samsung to pay them royalty... not to mention samsung is already paying microsoft of $12 per android device which is a cash...

im still betting on nokia's WP8... pureview and clearblack technology is the best... sAMOLED might be awesome but on legibility under the sun... clearblack rules!!

Nokia dont have there own OS. How stupid. And rely
on MS, and alsp restricted than ios. Symbian users had
freedom. Do u think they will prefer Windows? No way. They are
all migrating to Android. At least Samsung tried Android. Symbian, remember the innovate8.

yes and its true that ex symbian lover will go to android colony and samsung is the phone... people who go away from nokia will go samsung..coz its like the trend now...

and yes, nokia is relying on WP so they need to convince themselves that the only way is up but if the WP plan fails.. they will truely fail.. they dont have a back up..since like i said, nokia has no sign of returning to symbian...

symbian is still the best platform btw... read the link i gave you.. but nokia make a worst mistake that they are regretting now... if they just support symbian foundation's UIQ instead of s60.. symbian might be flying high till now... but no, they didnt do that.. and the foundation collapse the engineer of UIQ works now on google and they implemented UIQ to android.. now look at android...

Totally agree!!

I love my Focus S, and will give Samsung first crack at earning my WP8 cash assuming it is a huge leap forward from WP 7, which I expect it to be. But I live in the real world, not just fandom world. I suspect I will find Nokia will be easily the best WP8 devices, and probably priced better. Free of their software limitations and R&D, Nokia can pour their efforts into an optimized hardware and exclusives for those handsets specifically designed to make Microsoft's OS sing. Samsung and HTC looks like they will adapt an Android experience to WP8. Those devices will probably be good and enjoyable, but Nokia will most likely be the better WP8 devices.

Would anyone besides me not be surprised if in 2 or 3 years Nokia is the only true WP device maker in production?

for me i think its a good thing to nokia (real world) but bad thing for nokia (fan world) coz what if microsoft change its mind and make its own phone? nokia's screwed coz it got nothing on its sleeves... no more meego coz its now jolla.. symbian, people will consider it dead but functionality wise, it beats android... so are they really gonna rely on s40? and i think it will be soon overtake by android coz now there's a cheap chip maker like MediaTek could make android price cheap...

so im really suggesting that they should consider symbian again... if possible build up the symbian foundation again... or even just make it the OS for the low end instead of s40... symbian can run on outdated processor fluidly and can multitask without breaking a sweat...even people on that market want to multitask coz its a need now.. i like the article MNB did.. so i suggest reading these mynokiablogdotcom/2012/08/19/mnb-reader-generated-symbian-or-android/

I understand your point. I actually agree with you. As strong as Symbian nation was, it was truly shortsighted to pull the plug on it until WP had proven itself.

I, however, disagree with some who think because MS is building Tablets they will build Smartphones. Nokia is their best hope in making WP a household name, and Nokia is way better equipped to do it. I still like Nokia's chances to be profitable again. Just not sure why they had to kill Symbian to do it.

BUT, a very big but... what if the name WINDOWS PHONE 8 is sky high? higher than android (just an example so android fans just chill) do you really think Microsoft wont make its own smartphone line? they already did that on tablet...

but if they will buy nokia.. it will hurt other manufacturers...

thats why samsung is making a big effort in background on its new OS tizen.. coz if microsoft will be against samsung.. they will have its own OS... since Tizen's purpose is to be the OS for tablets, smartphones ect... but its nearly impossible though...

like the blabber mouth acer CEO blabbering about why microsoft make its own tablet... it will also happen if microsoft will surely make its own smartphone..

MS would make more money from licensing the OS than building the phones and then selling the phones. If the OS takes off they could just sell it to more OEM's and rake in the profits just as they do with the PC market. They want companies knocking on their door for the OS so they will probably not risk trying to go it alone with phones.

I like the design and feel of my HTC Trophy and I absolutely love the design of the HTC Titan so my WP8 phone would most probably be HTC but a mid-range one. I think they have great build quality though a bit pricey. Software updates wouldn't be a problem like their droid phones because updates will come from MS. (They did promise 18-months of updates) Though not ruling out Nokia and Samsung, just gonna wait for the right phone at the right price.

Yeah I have the HTC Trophy as well, and it is a pretty nice phone. It has good build quality, feels great in the hand, and has an understated but attractive design. There are a few things about it that I don't think are really up to par, such as: speakerphone quality, the feel of the external buttons (too flush with the phone for my liking), the small physical size of the battery, and the average camera quality.

I'm open to any manufacturer that can demonstrate high quality in all of these categories for my next phone, but I think Nokia is probably the closest so far.

@smartphone

that's my points. the good strategy. while samsung has now become number one best selling phone company, so people would easily drag on samsung first because of its brand popularity just like apple. nokia has already so left far behind even compared with other manufactures as sony, huawei and htc. wp should exclusively dedicated to nokia if microsoft were intended to help sort nokia's out of the dark age.

now samsung and htc can even use wp8 which is the very last nokia's ultimate strategy. it likely nokia is almost shink on the very start, so nokia only can sells its legend name than the features it self just like any other laptops/notebooks they battled on hardware specs and price tag, that's why i said good luck to nokia, as previously i thougt that wp did exclusively for nokia as nokia and microsoft signed a contract to became partner for os and hardware not signed to pay licence to use wp (nokia given and developed wp on phone while microsoft had nokia's ecosystem - ovi and maps).

unlike bb10, everybody are on high demand on its launch with no other competitors has the same features and capabilities. so it become a great factor to steal any market share left.

so, it is like nokia were cheated by microsoft to develop wp so it runs on phone, after microsoft had a stable wp os, they then licenced wp to other manufactures. so nokia's effort are completely useless, because in my sense, if nokia developed wp for the phone in the first time, the os licence to use on other phone manufactures must be to included nokia to make decision if licencing wp to other manufactures allowed or not.

bb10 now become licenced os to use on other manufactures but it is under rim's control, so wp must in nokia's control too, not only on microsoft hands.

FYI

I'm not a fan on some brand/os. im just a kind of people who looking for optimized device. a high end device surely can do almost all good things good. but i also look downward, the cheapest device but can do the most, i compared a cross comparison between specs, price and feature. but usualy i choose what i can get most and which i need the feature most. u can look on my profile phone.

i used to fanatics on sony ericsson (se) phone, because it is cheaper and had more feature, compactibility and simplest phone setting than -say- nokia, even it is not smartphone, but i can have gps, wifi, internet things on my phone and a whole lot apps and games on java based.

my oppinion about bb the first time i had a chance to experimental is bb bold 9900, had no intentions to buying one even it has realtime email notification, because it is lack and limited features that can download things from file hosting web.l and i had to pay extra to use bb as my modem.

i saw iphone next, but then again, even it is very good overall device, but the price tag i hardly accept. android is too new to be my choice. but then, had a money out of nowhere, and try one of its best at the time: galaxy tab p1000. impressed me si much. with only us$399 i had a device almost as close as ipad in function, (i never ever see ipad at the year 2011 so i really didnt notice it is also almost as close as ipad in looks and feels, so no chance for me to confused to buy galaxy tab rather than ipad).

so, like i did with se, i bought a med and low spec models, and i found that even with very low end spec device, i still can do what i could do on my galaxy tab with a limitations.
