Two 4 inch Apple iPhone models to launch in 2013 with a larger sized model set for 2014 or beyond

Earlier reports that Apple would launch three versions of the Apple iPhone this year have been replaced by newer gossip that suggests that the Cupertino based tech giant will release two 4 inch models of its iconic smartphone in 2013, and a third model with a larger-sized touchscreen (4.8 inches?) will be released in 2014 or beyond...

I'm so done with the iPhone. My 5 is a piece of junk. I'll likely be getting the Motorola X.

At the rate Apple is going, that 4.8" iPhone will more than likely be released at the same time as BlackBerry 10.
And, by the way, you misspelled "evolve" (or, was it intentionally done to demonstrate what something is like when it is incomplete?)

Nothing like consistency of the UI. iOS has had the same UI since 2007. And will have the same UI in 2017.

For you maybe!!! For the iPhone it has been 3.58 inches on average...
So if you live in America, you might be above average!!!

I keep saying this...
If Apple doesn’t come out swinging this year they will lose a lot of customers. I love my iPhone but I'm about to make the jump to an Android phone soon. I'm getting a little tired of the same-old stuff.
Apple definitely needs an updates iOS with a new fresh look. Maybe it’s just me but I need something to engage my attention. Also, A larger screen (more screen options) would be welcome. I think the iPhone 5 looks amazing but the jump to a 4" screen was a lame attempt to give the users what they want.
I am still using my iPhone 4 and there is absolutely no reason for me to purchase the new iPhone 5 or... as its looking... the iPhone 5s. What’s so different about it?
21. PAPINYC (limited) 3 days ago posted on 22 Jan 2013, 12:00 14 1
Told you that a year ago (but, you kept fighting me on it).
"What's different about it," you ask? It will probably have a new and more stylish Volume Rocker and a brand new "revolutionary" Mute Button; all worth the $700 upgrade price [I'm sure] ♡
39. davecann2 posted on 22 Jan 2013, 14:26 4 0
hahah... Yes PAPINYC you did tell me!
I'm not knocking the iPhone just yet. Its still a great phone. All I'm saying is that I can see why so many people love their Android. A friend of mine just go the Samsung S3 and it is simply awesome.... I love the Google integration!
I would stay with Apple if they simply made real changes to their phones. Its not worth the upgrade from my iPhone 4 to the iPhone 5. Just my opinion.

I'm in the same boat, I had an android (RAZR) and disliked the battery life I got but I liked the features I got with ICS vs previous android experiences. I got my iPhone 5 since I had a 4 before and I really liked it. However since I got my iPhone 5 it freezes (4-5 seconds then it's fine) and it's become annoying. Some of my coworkers have the GS3 and I like the screen size of it so I'm thinking of purchasing one to replace my iPhone.

iPhone, twitter, and Facebook+ Redundant irrelevant technology that is meant to be for mindless zombies! they will never change what has worked for them since they started.
hahaha every person i see with an iPhone is on some social networking site whereas everyone i see with an android or a blackberry is investigating/googling/ studying something!
48. darkkjedii posted on 22 Jan 2013, 16:07 1 1
Give the 5 a try Dave, it's a great device. It is time for apple to hit one outta the park though.

If he's bored of his iPhone 4, what's the point of getting the iPhone 5?
50. darkkjedii posted on 22 Jan 2013, 17:17 1 1
That would b the reason I said (give it a try)...
59. davecann2 posted on 23 Jan 2013, 12:38 1 0
What up darkkjedii,
I thought about getting the iPhone 5... I was able to use one for a few days at my work as I was setting one up for one of team members.
No doubt its a great phone! its just not any different then my iPhone 4 with the exception of a slightly elongated screen and Siri.
Its a beautiful phone and it does what it is designed to do. I just cant see the $200 + 2year contract jump to own one.
After hearing that Apple will have a 4.8" screen I was so siked!!! but now its over a year away... bummer

I think apples gonna shock us this year Dave. I think they've taken notice, the shakeup at apple is a definite sign, I don't think they got rid of Forstall to keep things the same bro. Apples gonna shock us bro.

Which is precisely the reason I went from the GS3 to an iPhone 5. It was pointless to get a Note 2 bc it was too similar to the GS3
12. PapaSmurf posted on 22 Jan 2013, 10:57 15 0
Oh Apple, you're so predictable. Your fans are starting to realize that it's the same thing every year and you still delay upgrades for another year. RIM is definitely the one that's going to be laughing at you lol.
47. metalpoet (unregistered) posted on 22 Jan 2013, 16:06 3 1
The apple fans of utah arent noticing anything! they'll buy whatever sh*tty phone apple regurgitates and slaps on some pretty fuzzy pink bedazzled case and say that other phones feel cheap compared to their fragile glass and "metal" phone that can break if its tapped too hard from texting(i sh*t you not my idiot friend borke his iPhone 5 screen while texting, he was texting too hard)
75% of women in the United States that own a cellphone....OWN A IPHONE!
holy jumping zombies jobs jesus that is f**king stupid and this world is going to hell cuz idiot f**king continue to let apple have there somewhat hard earned money on a soul sucking device like the iSUCK!!!!!!!!

So once again we have the (S) factor on the next generation model of Iphone..... I cant believe I was once an iphone user. I understand they maybe want to be conservative and other stuff but customer will soon sooner or later realize that iphone is so closed that you could choose any OS over them and be outstanding
14. Aeires (unregistered) posted on 22 Jan 2013, 10:59 5 0
There used to be a time when you could ignore every rumor about Apple because they'd all be wrong. Since the iPhone5 turned out to be exactly what the rumors said it would be, don't know anymore. While a poly-carbonate phone completely goes against Apple's design philosophy, so did a 7" (approximate) tablet.
The one thing I do see that's different is Steve was about limited devices at premium prices, while Tim is about more products at whatever price he can get. I think Apple is going backwards in that regard. Whether this turns out to be a good strategy or not will remain to be seen.
15. ryq24 posted on 22 Jan 2013, 11:01 6 0
if this is true, apple stock will continue to fall. anything smaller than 4.3" is going to fail.
16. CreeDiddy posted on 22 Jan 2013, 11:06 3 0
I think the biggest problem for Apple is adjusting/scaling all of the apps for larger screens, even if they go 4.8" . If I am Apple I tell the developers to create only HD apps and downscale to size of the phone. This sounds like it would save time rather than upscaling the app to higher screen size and resolution.
58. VZWuser76 posted on 22 Jan 2013, 22:57 0 0
To me that's a cop out. Look how many different screen sizes there are in android, probably around 15. And while apps aren't necessarily ready on launch day, there isn't usually a long wait to get apps that are sized correctly for your phone. In Apple's case, they have 4 screen sizes to contend with, and the devs can't handle that? Either they're not giving their devs enough credit, or they need better devs.

No matter the hardware apple, you're locked in os will kill the product. I wonder what will be the new must have feature of IOS 7? Native support for quad core processors and 1080p resolution? Or maybe some feature where the display locks off when your eyes close?
19. BREvenson posted on 22 Jan 2013, 11:44 5 0
Three versions of the iPhone...talk about overkill. It will be even more disastrous if these models have very little difference between them.
With the expected upcoming release of the 5th iPad (three years since the first) and 2nd iPad mini (about six months since the first), now these iPhones...2013 could very well be the year of Apple's downfall; the slaying of the giant, if you will.
24. ChafedBanana posted on 22 Jan 2013, 12:23 2 0
Phones will be getting small again by the time the iPhone finally gets big.
31. cripton805 posted on 22 Jan 2013, 13:27 2 0
Apple should offer a new 5s as the low cost version of an iPhone. Keeping the screen at 4" and minimal differences. Then offer a whole new line with a different form. Top of the line specs at 4.5"+. Refresh the OS on all phones from here on. This way, the low budget iPhone would be the one with minimal differences and the high end version would change. It would give consumers a choice.
32. Gcombs posted on 22 Jan 2013, 13:28 0 0
Nothing but the 5s and a 8GB 5 for $99.99 on contract and for 2014 we will just have to wait and see.
34. rusticguy posted on 22 Jan 2013, 13:38 1 0
Polycarbonate one will canabalise the aluminum one so stocks would come down further ... and the story continues
36. snowgator posted on 22 Jan 2013, 13:50 3 0
My opinion, for what little it worth, is that with the iPhone continuing to sell like it is Apple will continue to make the same device. It took BlackBerry until getting buried to change, and Apple will not mess with success. Of course, anyone in tune with mobile knows what it takes to compete, but Apple just must look at the stack of cash they have and just chuckle at the thought of reusing an established supply chain and minimal software R&D, and just figure lets ride the horse until the horse is dead.
I was among many, many posters here saying Apple has peaked. Guess we will see.
42. kboo1995 posted on 22 Jan 2013, 15:51 0 0
U R so right
apple WILL NOT take any risks that make them loose money
37. ibap posted on 22 Jan 2013, 13:52 0 0
What, no one has said fragmentation?
And actually, as an Android user who doesn't play action games or watch movies - I'd love a slightly smaller phone with a great screen and a keyboard. And I have no interest in an iPhone.
43. kboo1995 posted on 22 Jan 2013, 16:01 0 0
I have been an IPhone user since the 3GS
Now I am using the 4S and i see NO point in upgrading to 5
but I don't think apple is that blind to ignore what happening to the market
2013 is there last chance
Do or Die
it is very likely that they will do something to save them selfs
They don't need any hardware updates
Just change the software and give it nice features once a while and that's it
This is just my opinion :)
