Twitter wars: LG says the G3 is the world's first Quad HD smartphone, Oppo disagrees

0. phoneArena 21 Jul 2014, 07:10 posted on

It seems that LG is a bit too excited about its G3, so much that it forgets other companies released Quad HD handsets before it...

Nope whatever people are saying, Oppo Find 7 was released one month earlier than LG G3.

Yeah, Oppo was probably first/second, but LG is the first to make the phone widely available, and that is a fact...

Every manufacturer can make a few prototypes and claim to be first with everything.....

With the kind of screen quality and heating issues on LG G3, it probably is a prototype too

Yeah the g3 is a big brand phone. But that doesn't justify the white lie.

Even OPPO comes 2nd. Vivo xplay 3s was the first.

LG could have claimed the world's 1st GLOBALLY available moniker. But world's 1st quad HD phone? 2 hoots to LG

Knowing LG is into screen bussines, they've probably had the QHD display on the phone back when its still a prototype.

XPlay of Find, neither of them went through CTS or FCC that are quite time consuming.
Not only they cannot be considered to be Android phones, they aren't even legitimate phones by today's standard for this matter.

By their standards, my former client would already have launched several 64bit Android phones, LMAO

You really know nothing.

They didn't pass the Android CTS (compatibility test suit), thus excluded from Google PlayStore.

They even didn't apply for that.

Why would a Chinese phone maker making phones for China want all the terrible rules and regulations that come with Google Play?

No matter who's first, QHD doesn't replace FHD as of now full stop.

Finally, a reasonable comment. Yeah IMO FHD is still great up to 14", (screen of my laptop). The only reason I'll go to a phone with higher resolution than 1080p is if:
-it's a free one on my contract
-it has better battery than a 1080p flagship
-camera is a Pureview lol

We'll definitely switch when:
- It has at least the same battery levels than the FHD flagships
- It doesn't compromise on the contrasts and brightness
- it is housed in an ergonomically respectable casing
- The phone that has it sports SD 805 or better (newer GPUs).

Agree here:
- It has at least the same battery levels than the FHD flagships
- It doesn't compromise on the contrasts and brightness
- it is housed in an ergonomically respectable casing

and my point here:
- The phone that has it sports SD 805 or better (newer GPUs).
-To be honest I find processing power enough since Krait 400, it's the GPU that's really lacking. But this is my personal opinion, I don't need/want 4k videos anyway.

As long as it doesn't overheat/waste battery life, more CPU power is great, if efficiency rises with the power then it is A-OK

Well Overheating is caused by the GPU who is not able to keep up, so a new GPU literally means no overheating. Of course materials needs to be considered too.

People said the same thing when 1080p hit the market a couple of years ago and guess what happened? Of course the first FHD's were sluggish in what they offered (remember Droid DNA) but technology was there.

Now anything less than 1080p would be considered mediocre, see how people bashed Moto X. I bet by next 6-10 months every major brands flagship will have QHD then you wont have any choice.

Please take attention on when I said 'as of now'. You are right to picture the DNA however, but It does have a lower res counterpart that serves as the main flagship for HTC (that'd be the One X). If LG introduces a flagship with 1080p earlier, we and LG wouldn't be on the same situation now and will not view the G3 as a bad successor to the G2 (although still a nice smartphone).
