0. phoneArena posted on 21 Sep 2011, 19:01

Last time, a twitter poet suggested that the Nexus Prime would make its debut on the market on November 3rd, this time the hint is that there will be a variant of the Prime with a physical QWERTY keyboard...

As long as it doesn't look like the pic PA put up there, I'm in.

Also: first.

The pic was a mock up of a possible Nexus 2 back when people expected it to be Motorola made and based on the DROID design. The Prime is Samsung, so it certainly won't look like the picture.

It was also believed to be the motorola shadow which became what is known today as the Droid X

ZOIDBERG LIKE NEXUS PRIME!

i know i still prefer my QWERTY.

droid 3 has the best qwerty ever!

Considering PURELY the qwerty aspects, I think Samsung Epic 4G's was slightly better. But then again, 5-rows = win.
BUT WHY WON'T ANY OF THEM LAUNCH OUTSIDE OF USA/CANADA T_T
*roll roll roll*

nope! everybody knows the Droid 3's is better. i like how Sprint has all the function buttons in their layout though. i wish that useless voice search key on the Droid 3's keyboard was replaced with like a back or menu key.

I'm torn on QWERTY. Few high-end phones have one now (Droid 3 is almost high-end but lacks LTE and is short on RAM) but being a previous enV owner, I've gotten used to it. I've tried typing on the iPhone and my thumbs are just too big, but that's a pretty small screen. I have my eye on the Vigor but I wonder if I'll miss my physical keys.

The Stratosphere looks to improve on the Epic's keyboard, but at heart it's still a Galaxy S. At least we still have options.

i admit i kind of wish i had LTE but i fixed the RAM issue with the V6 SuperCharger script. my Droid 3 runs 100% smoothly 95% of the time.

I would love to have a Keybaord for playing things like Zenonia 3 and other great games... I dont wanna use the Virtual keys for such great games... it also is better to use a physical Keyboard for passwords and what not... sure the Vkb is great but i just prefer the physical\

*edit* I hope the qwerty version comes out for Vz i would gladly pay for it

The only reason I would use the physical keyboard for would be games, especially Gameboy, N64, etc. emulators. I type much better on virtual keyboards actually, but having to tap the top-right corner of my screen to do a barrel-roll on my EVO whilst playing Star-Fox is a bit difficult.

Could explain the Samsung AT&T phone we saw earlier that people were upset was the SGII variant for AT&T. If you remember, the phone DID have Android 2.4 loaded on it. It makes sense. So, if this is true, AT&T will be at least getting the QWERTY version of the Prime.

10. Dr.Phil posted on 21 Sep 2011, 20:20

Actually I must have been mixed up, it just had Android 2.3.4. My bad.

9. bolaG posted on 21 Sep 2011, 20:18 4

I would LOVE if it had a QWERTY

Like Dr. Phil brought up, all I can think of is when the GS2 gossip was flying around and the idea was floated out by an "insider" that AT&T's version of the GS2 was gonna have a keyboard, the Phone Arena world lost their ever-livin'-minds. I got like 5 thumbs down for saying it was a good idea and would sell. (I do think that varient is still a "coming soon" device for the Evil Empire.) Now, this is being recieved much better. Is that because the Verizon crowd responds to keyboards really well, or just because we think the full touch screen version is not endagered?

13. daniyo posted on 21 Sep 2011, 22:14

urg i was gonna get epic touch but if is really coming to sprint ill get it in a heart beat

The dream phone :)

15. Stuntman posted on 21 Sep 2011, 22:34

I won't be in the market for a phone when the Nexus Prime comes out. If it indeed does have a physical keyboard and the next one will also have one, I will definitely consider it when it is time to upgrade my phone.

16. akhi216 posted on 21 Sep 2011, 23:00

It's only right that Google releases a Nexus phone that has a keyboard. The Droid had a keyboard, was vanilla Android bloatware aside, was co-developed by Google, and most importantly it was the phone that put Android on the market. There is definitely a market for phones with keyboards hence the Droid 3 being on backorder virtually everywhere; it wouldn't make sense to just leave keyboard lovers out in the cold. Much of the appeal of the Droid was that it had a keyboard...unlike the iPhone.

The people that swear by touchscreen-only phones are people who either obsess over the thickness and weight of a phone as if thin and light phones are supermodels, are too blinded/hypnotized by HTC Sense to care about 2.5 hour battery lives due to bigger screens and poor battery management, wannabe tech geeks who have bought a touchscreen-only phone when it came out because it was "sexy" had a bigger screen (0.3") and the bigger geebees and now they want everyone to think slider phones are ***, and ex-iPhone owners who subliminally are still iSheep at heart.

A Nexus pro would be nice.

There really hasnt been that many high end phones with keyboards.

I would absolutely forget about snagging a Droid Bionic and wait with tingling anticipation if a QWERTY version of the Prime were to be released on Verizon. I'm in the camp that thinks that if the Droid3 were 4G it would be the perfect device.

23. Sethdras posted on 22 Sep 2011, 09:16

this is the perfect upgrade for me, hopefully on Verizon. I have the OG droid and passed on the bionic to wait for either th HTC Vigor or the Prime. If there is a qwerty Prime coming to verizon, dual core 1.5ghz, LTE, that would be an utterly perfect upgade. My fingers are crossed! been waiting patiently with my last new every two upgrade since July.

24. roldefol posted on 22 Sep 2011, 09:19

DROID 4 (as in 4G) anyone? (Yeah, too soon after the D3 release. Maybe in another half year.)

28. Thump3rDX17 posted on 22 Sep 2011, 13:13

i'll probably be sticking to the original Droid line for a long time. xD

I personally don't have an issue with phones being a little bulky or heavy, and would love a physical keyboard. I always thought people crying for them were living in the past until I reviewed the HTC Arrive, and fell in love with keyboards.
