What sets BBM apart from other services like whatsapp?

Everyone knows how much I hate blackberry but here are the standouts

1. Has video and voice call with BBM users (whatsapp lacks that, hangouts its not on BlackBerry)
2. Send delivered and read confirmation
3. A bit more private (a code/user as opposed to an email or phone number.. That's if you are a security freak or a health sexter willing to remain anonymous)

That's about it...

line would be better than bbm with even more platform available.

cubie, viber, tango are much better too

Does anyone even use BBM anymore? I remember using it years ago when I owned a torch, and it was only popular due to the fact that Blackberrys were more widely used and simply more popular than other phones during that time (4-6 years ago). iMessage and Whatsapp are superior and leading as far as messaging programs go (minus basic SMS).

Could there be widespread popular results with BBM during this leap of faith onto other platforms?
Would people go out of their way to grab a coworkers or friends BBM, instead of using the other simplistic and straight forward ways like SMS and Whatsapp? I'm curious to see the results.

Problem is with this app you can video and voice call BBM users whatsapp still lacks that functionality

I think you can fix that with a Jailbreak tweak (iOS and Android via Cydia). But yes, would be nice for them to stock it with video and voice.

Didn't knew people did that to whatsapp O_O and while I dislike blackberry I must say whatsapp has done a poor job at reinventing their app and have remained stale, so far despite being so popular it has the least number of features

I couldn't agree more. It is slacking a lot. But like any messaging app, there are pros and cons.

Getting Sunday morning church lady grandma to "jailbreak" her phone so that you can leave her messages may make her feel very uneasy. LOLZ

How is whatsapp 'superior' to BBM? More popular but superior how, because there's PTT?

Perhaps not, maybe there'll be some kind of verification that your device is a Samsung upon loading the app.

We reached out to BlackBerry for comments and here's what they had to say: "The excitement around the upcoming BBM launch on iPhone and Android devices seems to know no bounds. Although I’m a big fan of this passion, I want to clarify that no one will have an exclusive on offering BBM. We’ll be bringing the app to Android and iPhone users across the globe soon." - BBM Communications Director at BlackBerry, Victoria Berry.

Not that I care that much (though BB is still fairly popular in Nigeria) but will it work on my phone considering that I'm running Cyanogenmod 10.2 and not touchwiz?

what does this mean Samsung users will have a three-month exclusive to BBM for Android. I didn't understand do we have to pay after 3 months to use BBM on our android devices

I'd believe the story more if it didn't come from Nigeria. Was their notification via Email?
