Even if you don't want to install it right away, it may be a good idea to get a license before the price increase...

I purchased the W8 upgrade about 1 month ago. On an older PC I upraded from 32 bit to 64 bit and did a clean install on a new SSD. Performance was greatly improved. I set things up so that I have a dual boot system (Vista 32 bit and W8 64 bit). Of course, given the age of the PC I do not have touch screen capability. But it is quite easy to download a couple of apps that make W8 look very much like W7 (desktop, start menu, task bar, etc.)

Win 8 is faster, and that alone is a good enough reason for upgrading. If you want to be left behind, then go ahead. Adios ;o)

yeah sure free is never better featured whole windows series is always ahead of Ubuntu which is probably made on forums and merged in the end. as does people say wp7,8 lacks apps support Ubuntu/linux also is plagued by this in software market most things comes for windows and MAC before linux and most doesn't even come to linix besides its nonuser friendly OS then windows whatever win8 is never used yet but i can already say it is better then Ubuntu 10,20,30 whatever it is coming now. why people should not pay for a user friendly windows rather free crap only friendly for developers Ubuntu.

Dont get Windows 8 Period!!!!! It sucks. I bought windows 8 pro about a month ago, i did clean installation on my hp laptop. FYI: (Moving from Windows 7 and Ubuntu 12.04.1.)
Basically they fix windows 7 bugs and add metro ui on top it, which is only meant to use on touchscreen laptop. If i had chance to get my $40 dollars i would get it back without any hesitation. Microsoft decided to remove windows media center, which was the strong selling point in windows 7 and now its gone. I used to watch live it on media center. Microsoft wants you pay for WMC. Go for something else. they're plenty of free options available. Lets be honest nobody uses internet explorer.
