0. phoneArena 22 Mar 2011, 23:58 posted on

The Time Warner Cable TV app for the Apple iPad can stream up to 32 channels of live television to your tablet; the networks say that streaming to a tablet has nothing to do with cable TV which should require that additional fees get paid to the networks for the rights to their programming for use on the tablet...

How is this different from another TV in the house? Time Warner doesn't charge for additional TV connections, though they charge for boxes (DVR or otherwise) if you need them. It doesn't work outside of your home - I've already read enough complaints from people that have discovered that for themselves.

I agree, Ibap. Why should it matter what device is receiving the cable. The customer still pays for the ability to watch the channels. It seems like it would be the exact same as plugging another TV into the wall.
This seems like the networks seeing an opportunity to try to squeeze a little more money for the same content. Do they not get it?

It would be smart to hold up on the app if it has that many issues with it. They can take note from DISH Networks app that will allow you to view all of your channels and DVR content that you would at home, to your mobile device! DISH Network's TV everywhere requires high-speed internet and a Sling adapter. There app is already out and you can even manage and watch your recordings on your DVR. DISH Network app works on Tablets, Smartphone’s, and Laptops. Dish Network came out with the 922 several months ago that has the Sling capabilities built in so you don’t need the adapter and can record up to 100 hours of HD programming. I work for DISH and I can tell you when you sign up to DISH you can get up to three HD receivers for free and HD free for life. Check it outwww.dish.com.

No reason to hold up on the app. It is specifically an extension of your cable services provided to you by TWC within the vicinity of your home, or wireless network. Networks should have no reason to complain that this is being offered by a television service provider as it DOES NOT service outside of the home.
@ Connan, not only does dish not provide local content, but also the sling thing has been around for quite a while, and still has so few users it isn't funny. Also, free HD for life???? You believe everything your company says? The small print specifically states that the free HD programming is only for 24 months, and the amount of HD programming is a joke compared to that which TWC offers their customers.
