Not to be outdone by HP with its star-studded celebrity webOS campaign, Windows Phone 7 is recruiting famous people for marketing purposes in its own turn.

Music producer Timbaland, who is behind names like Nelly Furtado, Keri Hilson or Justin Timberlake, seems to be mesmerized by the ability to play Xbox Live games on a phone, in a tweet aimed to tout the virtues of Verizon's HTC Trophy:

Microsoft is rumored to step up marketing and awareness about the Windows Phone platform, especially improving on carrier relationships, which, as some secret shopper experiences confirmed, leave much to be desired.

The real big guns marketing is probably being saved for when Nokia Windows Phones and the second generation of WP7 handsets with the Mango update hit later this year, but scoring Timbaland is not bad for a start. Perhaps "Talking on the phone" was the reason he scored the HTC Trophy promo, this song is so made for a smartphone TV ad.

You may not like him, but a zillion other people do. And that's how marketing works.

Besides, It's always good to see a product becoming widespread and popular - when just 4 years ago smartphones were reserved for businessmen and geeks mainly..

just because some "famous" person is paid to say "i like it", or "it is good", doesnt make it a better product. plain and simple.

Timbaland is nothing but a scumbag beat thief.

Have you ever seen Timberland in his early interviews? He freely and openly admits he samples beats from all genres. That is how hip hop music was created, two turn tables mixing and scratching over someone else's beats. That doesn't make him a their or a scumbag, it makes him creative.

There's nothing wrong with sampling, if you pay the original artist and give them credit. Look at the liner notes of most rap CDs, you'll see writing credits that result in royalties for the original artist.

It's when you jack somebody else's work and don't give them their rightful credit or money like Timbaland consistently does, then that is STEALING, not sampling.

I could say whether he did or didn't to all the original artist or not, but of the CD's i've purchased, there was always a few songs he listed. So far I only found him getting sued for one song, twice. The record company lost the first case an is trying again. But to be a huge of a beat their that link implies, I would have suspected there would be a lot more lawsuits.

Just curious, how do you feel about the suit apple is facing over wifi sync. You think apple stole it?
