Tim Cook says 'no' to iPhone with larger screen, says there are too many trade-offs

0. phoneArena 24 Apr 2013, 03:03 posted on

So, we were all expecting an iPhone with a bigger screen this year, but it looks like this may not happen, or at least that's the impression we get from Tim Cook's statement made during the company's fiscal Q2 conference call...

iPhone does have a great screen Tim cook is so wrong to say it is the "best". He should be more objective and realistic instead of exaggerating all the time!

I second that. The iPhone has a very good screen and is a very good product made, marketed & managed by complete morons!

Well done Captain Cook! Speaking like a true a $$hole... out of his a$$!

I mean even the IFans were looking forward to a bigger screen but the ego of some individuals will eventually kill a product with a lot of potential.

One of the biggest trade off would be a big reduction to Apple profit margin.

customers of Apple mostly buy an outdated iPhones 4S and old iPads (according to every study), so Apples customers are just "oooohhh, Apple, I have to get one!"
so the result is = Apple doesn't need to innovate at all, it's majority are bl*nd sh**ps who are able to throw away their money :)

and when Apple innovates, here are the results:
goo [dot] gl/5KyIk (Apple likes the stallions :-D
goo [dot] gl/Ie0cx (beautiful psychic diversion :)

anywherehome, the apps on the Apple ecosystem helps me make money in my hobby. While I have never owned an iPhone (I use android as my smartphone), I've made tens of thousands of dollars with my iPod Touch and iPad Mini.

These apps simply do not exist on android OS. At the end of the day, these are tools rather than toys. Even after 2 years, I am still reluctant to give away my iPod touch -- it's small, portable, and lightweight and it gets me the money.

You say its not the best, Oh please, Its the best phone way ahead of its time. While other manufacturers are working on bendable displays, Apple made a bendable phone. iphone is so good that if you hold it wrong you cant use it without a rubber bumper. Like do it with rubber to prevent a virus. While you have to wait for your samsung to get scratched, yeah that takes time, Apple got a patent on Scratched straight out of the box. The purple haze on photos with the iphone5, Now thats tech, people again need lessons to use the camera. Come on samsung, Think Apple - A smartphone inspired by ......rather not say it

As a Samsung Galaxey Note.....power user I am in full support of what Mr. Cook's short term direction is for iPhone. Samsung, HTC and the others who are adapting and changing to client demands could not ask for a better CEO to compete against than Jobs and Cook.

Just another way to try to justify your overall inability to compete in the tech game. Apple iphone and products generally are a classic bore extremely dull and offer no user enhancements or experience what so ever. Apple honestly has been for years and will continue to be a sad conclusion. Samsung products are just so much more enjoyable and fun to have and use on a daily basis it's extremely comically NO COMPARISON.

IPS LCD has always and will always be inferior to AMOLED. Why do you think Samsung struggles to produce higher resolution screens for? It's because the technology is much harder to produce

Hmm.. No. The HTC One X screen was always better than the Gnexus and S3 screen, both of which use SAMOLED and all three of them have 720p resolution. Not as visible outdoors, and the sub pixel layout... Ugh. I used to prefer AMOLED, but IPS has proven to be a little ahead. Though I think the new AMOLED screens are better, so are IPS

Have you ever looked at an iPhone 5's screen? It was stunning, to say the least.
I previously thought other manufacturers cant compete with Samsung and Nokia's AMOLED devices, but was proven wrong by the ip5. I wasn't that impressed with ip4 display but this one was really good.

and it looked better.....why???....wait for it....BECUASE IT HAD A BIGGER DISPLAY!!! Apple had previously said they would NEVER increase the size of thier phone before the 5. But guess what....becuase of the trend that Samsung started with the larger displays; Apple knew in order to compete they had to increase the size as well, facts are facts and Apple is a step behind the rest right now, Samsung and HTC are releasing Quad Core and Octa Core Full HD 5 inch screens while Apple is convincing thier minnons in investing in the 5S that is way behind the curve.

Color gamut, saturation, et cetera

The iPhone 5 display is good, very good even, but certainly not the best. There are higher quality screens of the same tech, as well as various better techs out there.
And Apple is known for saying they are, or are not, going to do something and then doing the exact opposite a few months later.

Frankly, either he's deliberately lying or he's never tried a 5'' full HD display, because they're wonderful. I tried an xperia Z and it's not true it's too big, the large display is wonderful and the resolution is amazing. Having a full HD resolution in a 5'' display really does make a difference.
What's more, bezels have shrinked recently, so these new phones (be it samsung, sony, htc or lg) are only marginally bulkier than the previous generation. Samsung also managed to reduce the S4 size (compared to the S3) while increasing screen size...

- Quad core A7 chipset 1.4
- Power VR SGX 554 GPU
- IOS7
- 12 mp camera, 720p, 1.3 front facing camera

- LTE

Power VR SGX 554 GPU NO GPU till date beats it
720p Retina display going to be better than your Super Amoled 1080p with burn in effect after 6 month of use.
The 12 mp camera going to be better than even 16 mp Android camera lol.

The thing is, Apple depends on LG for its screen. Now im sure LG wants to gain more market share so i don't think they would make a "super" 5inch screen for apple when in most markets its all about the display. LG will be wise to keep that tech for itself

This comment is directed to PhoneArena.com's online editorial dept, and the OBVIOUS Apple fanboy Ray S. Since the iphone 5 was released Apple's stock share value has dropped from around $700 to $300, although I believe it has rebounded to $400 per share as of late. However with that being said I think its still important to point out that investors and the mobile phone community at large is able to see the writting on the wall. The fact that you would even publish this article is truly amazing to me. Apple and Stevey boy once balked that he WOULD NEVER increase the size of the display on the iphone, PERIOD! Well guess what folks, not long after Steve passed away and Tim tool the helm; he knew that they had to increase the size of this display as that it had become

necessary becuade they were losing to many sales to Samsung and HTC, and now Tim will be the undoing of Apple as Tim cook is not the manager, innovator or inspiration Steve Jobs was, his obvious disconnect with what is a clear trend in the market is just what Samsung is counting on. How can you say that a Full HD 1920×1080p 441ppi 5" screen is not a quality display...lmao....and who in thier right mind would say that is beyond me. But my true overall problem with the article is that if you go and read the original article, linked at the bottom of the story by Electronica, you will see that Ray S has clearly tried to spin the article to fit his thoughts
