Tim Cook says he wants there to be Apple products made in America

0. phoneArena posted on 29 May 2012, 21:34

Apple CEO Tim Cook is in the midst of an interview with AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg. While they are discussing a number of topics this evening, one very interesting one came up – Is Apple actually interested in manufacturing any of its products here in the United States...

I'm all for this by the way. It would be great for the US economy.

Hey taco seriously good comment. I'm completely for manufactures making their phones here in the USA. If Apple actually goes through with it hopefully it will lead the way for other manufactures to make their phones here.

Taco, I know you get slammed on here a lot, but why the f@%$ would someone thumb you down for this? If someone doesn't like jobs from American companies coming to America just don't read this article. No need to be an ass about it and thumb down something completely legitimate.

Thumbs up from me. I like Tim Cook, and I really hope he can go through with all he's saying, and it's not just idle speculation.

Sounds like a good idea, but is Apple really willing to give up profit? From what I know about Apple this doesn't seem likely.

Well the Chinese are getting their salaries doubled at Foxconn, soon it will be cheaper to build here after rising shipping cost and rising labor cost abroad.

I'd love to see this. We need to get back to the world war 2 era days of industrial america. Make this country truly prosperous again.

I would love for this to happen, but there are several reasons companies choose to have their products made elsewhere than here. If we start to work on fixing those problems, then we will see a rebirth of manufacturing here in the United States. It will be interesting to see which states they choose to build their manufacturing plants in. I can see a political battle brewing over this one.

Manufacturing in the U.S. is only one step in fixing America. For example fixing the crumbling infrastructure, change EPA regulations on oil drilled in the U.S. (Sulfur in Alaskan oil and oil sands in the Dakotas), trim the budget, raise taxes, giving engineers something else to do like building bullet trains instead of what dumb things that American engineers usually make, reach a compromise on divisive issues, and lower cost of labor to compete with china and other countries for manufacturing.

I guess China is getting too expensive now. Their government is really greedy even invading small countries around them.

It would be great if Apple could follow through on this. Imagine the amount of jobs that would be created and how it could benefit the economy. Plus, I would gladly pay the premium price for Apple's products, which I've been refusing to do since they rip off everyone by charging way too much for their Chinese products.

The reason we currently don't have enough tool & die makers is because companies that used their services took their business overseas to save money. And now they complain that they can't bring that work back because there isn't enough of an industry to handle their needs after they helped destroy that industry here. If this keeps up we're going to have a nation of sales people & consumers, and no manufacturing. Then where will we be?

27. EclipseGSX posted on 30 May 2012, 10:52

shhhh iFans dont like facts and want to live ignorantly that their precious iDevice is pure Apple magic and don't want to be reminded it has Samsung parts

31. remixfa posted on 30 May 2012, 21:25

I doubt it would ever happen, its just a nice PR snippet.

If it did happen though, I would give them total applause.

And actually, Taco, you brain dead troll, if you go read one of my posts from this morning, I straight up said If Apple made an iphone 100% in America, I would buy it just to support the cause of bringing more manufacturing jobs back stateside.

Which was well before I saw this article.
