Three prototypes for Samsung GALAXY Note III include one with a flexible display

0. phoneArena 01 May 2013, 01:02 posted on

That picture we showed you the other day that was allegedly the Samsung GALAXY Note III turned out to be another device altogether, but as it turns out there is speculation that there are three prototypes of the Samsung GALAXY Note III that are being looked at including one that looks like the Samsung Galaxy S4 and one with a flexible display...

Mmmmm is gonna be plastic. We know that already. It will be nice to see kevlar on it. I honestly can wait until september to see if Im gonna upgrade or not. I gotta say Note series are one of the greatest invention from Samsung hands down.

Now all the cry babies can get lost with all this silly LG GARBAGE and flexible/unbreakable display. Samsung owns this space.

I just don't understand what the fascination is with flexible displays. Does the market really want a phone with a convex or concave shaped display? (Dunno)

Educate yourself before judging how the flexible screen will be used.

The video has some interesting possibilities. However, the only one that seems probable in the near term is the rolled side notification panel. Folding displays will have to not suffer material fatigue from being folded 1000+ times in real world use.

There are many use cases that I can think of:
- Get notifications on the side of the screen
- Better angles of viweing if they are a blended
- Give visual notifications by blending the display.
But actually the most important feature is: they are virtually unbreakable! Yes, they can break, but probably other parts of the phone would break first.
Remember all those drop tests you see in this site? Imagine that instead of gettinga broken screen it just flexes and recovers. Screen is the part that always breaks.

If they do the hard-edged 'design' like what is shown in the pic, Apple will sue for infringing their bullsh*t design patent on hard edges....

You heard it first on PA.

What are you talking about? The S4 already has it.

Check the side view in the pic above. The edges (where the front & rear become the top & sides) are almost 90 degree angles (like Apple has done with the iP5). The GS IV doesn't have the hard/sharp edges of the iP5.

If Sammy produces toys with those hard edges, expect Apple to sue for infringing a design patent.

I guess I just don't understand what you mean. The design looks the same as the S4 to me. Check out the 360 view of the S4 & tell me if you still think so.

The back panel on the GS IV has curves before the sides and top/bottom meet. The pic of the alleged Note III has a back without the curve-y transition to the sides and top/bottom. Put another way, the GS IV has maybe a 110 degree transition angle (from the sides to the back). The alleged Note III appears to have almost exactly a 90 degree transition angle. At least based on the pic, which is all we have to go on.

Id rTher accept slow release of a new flagship than a super fast release that will make those buyers of d last flagship look dumb to have obsolete handset. :) and regular flagship releases with many bugs or not tested well in d labs :)

Hahaha.......before September, more flagships are coming from other manufacturers, and if Samsung choose September, Samsung is gonna lose the competition. :)

"is going SLOW"? Samsung has always released its NOTE during this period.
Please, do us a favour, if you have nothing interesting to say, just don't comment!

I know right? I know I will get thumbs down when saying that! The problem is September, and we still have to wait for four months for the beast to be released! In this four months, more flagships will be released from other manufacturers! You know what I mean? The BEAST needs to be released FAST!

And to those peoples who hate me, do me a favour, if you don't like my comment, just click the thumbs down and ignore me! As simple as that!

We understand that you're saying that the competition will be great but that would only be a issue if all of the upcoming phones were going to be exactly the same. Thats not going to happen so theirs no need to worry.

i don't understand why do you want samsung to release the note 3 faster when at the end you won't even buy it? why i said that? simply because you comment on every new phone's article when a new phone with this "x specs" to be released faster. people don't hate you they are most likely annoyed by your non-sense comment

Plastic has its benefits: lightweight, better signal capture than metal phones, the fact that phones made with plastic more commonly have an accessible battery compared to phones made with metals."
So does metal: "premium feel", nice-looking unibody design.

Generally if you are more utilitarian you'll appreciate a plastic build, whereas if you like having fancy looking things, you'll appreciate a metal unibody build.

Personally I don't care that much about the build of a phone as long as its sturdy and captures signal well, so as long as the metal doesn't interfere too much I could care less about whether the Note 3 comes in plastic or metal.

I'm more interested in seeing a new Galaxy with an improved camera, better multitasking capabilities, a more efficient, less cartoony, TouchWiz UI, more customizability, and increased hardware specs like a better loud speaker and energy-efficient processor

people shouldn't worry too much about stock launcher (touchwiz) since there are soo many launchers in the play store which is better. Nova launcher is probably the most smoothest launcher.

When i look at my phone i would like the sound coming at me (front speakers)... Plastic such as the sturdy ribbed stuff on the OG-Note is cool, it's this design (S3-S4) that's boring... And please use your "Plastic Oled" UBP screens, you know, the "Unbreakable " ones... Peace :)

You misunderstood. 4 gigabits (Gb) is only 512 megabytes (MB). 1 gigabyte (GB) = 8 gigabits (Gb). These modules will be sold in blocks of 4 which equals 2 gigabytes (GB). So, this is no evidence that the Note 3 will have 4GB of RAM, but it will definitely have the faster DDR3 RAM.

In my opinion, I think it is not the problem about the material, which in fact, not many ppl hate polycarbonate or so called plastic. The problem is the DESIGN, Samsung is keep using the same design over and over again in every low/mid/high end device since last year. I think this is the main reason why many ppl (including me) felt that the S4 "looks cheap", it doesn't have any uniqueness compare to other flagship since it looks almost the same to many other samsung device.

So Samsung, please don't make another mistake on your next flagship.

If they can fit a 6 inch screen on an ultra thin bezel, then I'm in....I really don't care if it's plastic since I'll be using a book case cover anyways.
