In a scene reminiscent of an Apple iPhone launch, thousands of people lined up around the Foxconn plant in Chengdu as workers tried ti secure some of the new production jobs related to the assembly of the 6th gen- Apple iPhone and the smaller sized Apple iPad...

They just lining up to commit another suicide....
10. neutralguy (Posts: 1152; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
yeah... because getting a job and try to earn some cash for your own living is committing suicide. I salute these chinese for even though the salary is so small, they still try to earn it for their own benefit.
Note: Not only because their lining up for a job to a company which produces the iPhone, doesn't mean that they're worshiping the phone. Some of you people don't understand how they wish to get a job just to earn money, because you never experienced being poor.

I just want to run up to the crowd and yell "Don't jump man! You have do much to live for!" Lol.
You guys need to take a chill pill. We've all had these discussions about the high suicide rates at Foxconn. Why is bringing up people lining up for a job that has a high suicide rate a bad thing? We're rehashing old news stories. Not everything is based on Apple hate. You guys need to stop defending Apple when someone is bringing up a valid issue rather than just talking crap.
Although I do hate Apple from the bottom of my heart, they are the rapists of the technology sector. But that's not important to my reply even though I hope they all choke on a ****, every last one of them that had anything to do with writing their patents, especially their lawyers. Big ****, GAG!

Now the obvious question, are there a lot of job openings due to previous workers "vacating" their jobs via the roof exit?
The high suicide rates at Foxconn are unacceptable. People always bring up that other companies use these Chinese factories or others like it so they're no better... Wrong, I've never heard news stories about Sony, LG or Samsung production lines having mass suicides. Quit trying to group all companies into the same boat when Foxconn, they are obviously the worst of the worst.

This is China we're tallking about, where there are hundreds or even thousands of factories where they can go get a job. These people lining up here aren't looking for a job, they just want a glimpse of the new products since in china iPhones are kinda like a trophy of wealth, the only time they might ever get to touch 1 would be while it's in production.
11. neutralguy (Posts: 1152; Member since: 30 Apr 2012)
yeah like all of those factories are now open to new employees like Foxconn.
16. tumchaaditya (Posts: 53; Member since: 21 May 2012)
Yeah and there are tens of millions of people looking for jobs...
This is a news because it is iPhone...
They might be lining up outside some other factory as well...
It just wont create this buzz though...

14. wendygarett (unregistered)
Why dont you have a try... This might be the best job for you and don't miss the opportunity :D
17. tumchaaditya (Posts: 53; Member since: 21 May 2012)
They work for like 12 hours and sleep at the same place...
How worse do you want?!
13. tiara6918 (Posts: 1107; Member since: 26 Apr 2012)
Noooo! You are just going to enter hell! Foxconn would just punish and treat you as slaves. They will only be giving you a low salary while you can get more with less effort and time from other companies. Instead of working for apple why not try meizu, huawei or even maybe htc(try to go taiwan), I'm sure that you'll be getting more benefits...
18. groupsacc (Posts: 232; Member since: 28 Feb 2012)
$24 registration fee?? How low can you get as a company that generates hundreds of billions of dollars of revenue. Do they really have to juice the candidates like that? Utterly disgusted.
19. xtian1103 (Posts: 352; Member since: 11 Feb 2012)
some people just don't know how hard it is for a chinese to get a job in china, against billions fighting for every job opening. at the end of the day it is not the thing that is being built on that factory that matters, it is the money they are gonna receive to feed their families. welcome to asia guys!
20. a_tumiwa (Posts: 125; Member since: 16 Mar 2012)
$24 registration fee.... it is too much...
a poor man is not allowed to get a job
21. Aeires (unregistered)
So 100 workers only made 5 phones? And you have to pay to register? I'd bet if you get interviewed but not hired, you don't get your registration fee back. Foxconn, can you get any worse with your employment tactics, I don't think so.
22. Peter27 (Posts: 233; Member since: 13 Jul 2012)
I am not saying this is in whole of China but I have seen once a documentary how candidates have been choosing the factory they want to work for by whichever offered the highest salary because apparently in some industrial areas there are more vacancies than candidates. There was one worker who came after her boss and asked for doubling her salary otherwise she threatened to leave. And they doubled it for her because they have been scared she might leave and they might not be able to fill the vacancy anymore.
So these Chinese who write comments that these people are iPhone worshippers, and that there is lot of vacancies might be actually right.

you guys HATE apple... we get it... but to talk down on a race of people who want a job is ridiculous... smh
these apple articles get some of the stupidest attention on here.
31. Doakie (Posts: 594; Member since: 06 May 2009)
There is no Apple hate in the following comment, it is pure fact. Also I'm not disparaging the Chinese people in ANY way.
These people are lining up and paying an application fee to work at a company with a higher than average suicide rate. This company has been responsible for mass suicides in the recent years. So we find it disappointing.
Stop being a defensive retard. Open your eyes to inhumane treatment that happens all over the place, and the fact that idiots try to hide reality due to their defensive nature about justifying their electronics purchase doesn't actually mean the inhumane treatment didn't actually happen. Foxconn is a company who is so noted for their suicide rates that they have suicide nets on their buildings, and force their employees to sign anti suicide agreements... How you can gloss over something so serious is actually pretty disgusting...

Sad that people have to not only live and work in such horrible conditions but on top of that have to pay an entrance fee into hell. I wonder how long before Apple sues Nike saying they invented sweatshop to "revolutionize" the profit margin.
